Zitara Technologies (YCombinator S20) builds predictive battery management software for transportation and energy customers with large deployments. Our customers operate >$100M deployments of batteries in satellites, EVs, and renewable energy storage installations.

Our team brings top researchers in physics-based battery algorithms together with seasoned software engineers to build safety-critical firmware and large scale machine learning systems. We bring with us decades of experience from companies like Tesla, Facebook, and Google.

Role

Zitara operates at the intersection of energy storage and application. Our software delivers the high-performance models and tools necessary for our customers to operate their battery systems safely and profitably. We are looking for a user-interface and user-experience (UI/UX) lead to guide the design of Zitara Studio, our web-based engineering software suite. You will work closely with product and engineering to create designs for implementation by frontend engineers and develop the strategy for integrating new capabilities as we grow.

Responsibilities

• Acting as an individual contributor, design the UI/UX deliverables necessary to expand the capabilities available to Zitara Studio customers, including interfaces for controlling technical software
• Create a roadmap for the UI/UX of Zitara Studio to deliver planned product features
• Collaborate with frontend developers to ensure feasibility and alignment with development practices.
• Participate in regular reviews with the frontend team to realize design improvements efficiently within the context of a small team
• Support Zitara’s marketing efforts by advising our consultants on improvements to our public facing website and content

Qualifications

• 4+ years experience in UI/UX design for web-based applications.
• 2+ years experience producing UI designs in wireframe software for implementation by engineers
• Familiarity with HTML/CSS and web-based projects, demonstrating an understanding of how designs translate into web development.
• Experience building systems for highly-technical audiences including presentation of: large volumes of textual or structured data; long-running workflows; intermediate or unfinished states; and raw data access.
• Opinionated organization of user-created entities. 
• Ability to identify tradeoffs that balance design and pace in a fast-moving startup environment.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Additional Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in UI/UX design for technical software, preferably delivered on the web, such as Onshape, Tableau, or Figma
• Familiarity with battery power industries (EVs, drones, ESS)
• Experience with designing for platform software
• Familiarity with Material design, MUI a plus.
• Experience developing advanced data visualizations and technical dashboards
• Experience managing a team, including third-party contractors, to deliver projects
