The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including, the United States Space Force, the Department of the Air Force, the Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.
Primarily, this position provides the leadership, planning, and direction to the Aerospace support focused on HQ USSPACECOM Joint Integrated Space Teams and related USSPACECOM and other combatant command OPLAN focused plans, exercises, wargames, and operational efforts. Secondarily, this position with provide subject matter expertise to support USSPACECOM joint integration efforts and gap analysis of space capabilities required to execute existing plans.
This position will be on-site in Colorado Springs and does not support remote nor hybrid work arrangements. This position will work in the Aerospace Colorado Springs facility, and USSPACECOM locations at Peterson SFB and other operating locations in the Colorado Springs area.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Leading the support to the USSPACECOM Joint Integrated Space Teams, and related efforts, with particular emphasis on INDOPACOM
  • Provide domain and operational insight to Space Control and C2 planning, targeting & course of action (COA) development IAW the current Adaptive Planning & Joint Targeting Cycle processes
  • Work across program and organizational boundaries to develop creative solutions for critical unfilled requirements, ensure common programmatic challenges and risks are identified
  • Leading independent technical assessments as required for the incorporation of space effects into other geographic combatant command plans and operations
  • Providing resource loaded plans to ensure Aerospace work products are properly scoped and executed within budget
  • Ensuring timely and quality reporting within Aerospace, to customers, including periodic written status updates, and other products as needed

What You Need to Be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree with at least twelve years of applicable experience is required.
  • Deep familiarity with joint and space operational planning processes
  • Be able to communicate effectively with senior leadership through timely, concise, and clear summary reports and briefings
  • Deep joint operations experience with one or more specific USSPACECOM and space operations capability area, preferably with direct applicability to INDOPACOM
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse team of analytic support and domain experts to provide technical rigor against operational challenges
  • Demonstrated and exceptional interpersonal, teambuilding, strategic, leadership and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of (including very senior) Government, Aerospace, and contractor personnel
  • Experience working in Government customer facing organizations
  • Successful experience identifying technical support requirements and working effectively with matrix organizations (e.g. with ETG)
  • Must have current TS/SCI clearance and the ability to obtain SAP/SAR accesses, which issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Frequent travel may be required

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of the following
  • Experience successfully leading an Operational Planning Team for a numbered plan, particularly one directly related to the space enterprise
  • Space Weapons School graduate
  • At least fifteen years of applicable experience
  • Experience/expertise with the culture and approach of USSPACECOM
  • Understanding of USSPACECOM (HQ and subordinate organizations) roles, responsibilities, and functions
  • Direct interaction with various organizations including US Space Force (USSF), Space Warfare Analysis Center (SWAC), Space Systems Center (SSC), US Space Command (USSC), and the subordinate Space Operations Squadrons (SOPS), the Intelligence Community and other Combatant Commands
  • Advanced degree with a technical, joint operation, or space related focus
  • Current SAP/SAR accesses

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
