Summary
This position is located in the Pentagon Heating and Refrigeration Plant, Facilities Operations and Services Division, FSD, Washington Headquarters Services. The Plant is in operation on a continuous 24/7-365 basis. The PH&RP is responsible for the production and distribution of steam and chilled water, the distribution and switching of 15kV Power, and supports the Operations and Management of the Reservation's City Water, Natural Gas, Storm Sewage, and Sanitary Sewage Systems.

- This position requires the employee to work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, holidays and may be subject to call 24 hours a day.
- This position requires wear of a uniform in the performance of duties.
- This position requires you to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- This position is Mission Essential. You may be required to report for, or remain at, work in dismissal or closure situations due to adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, or other emergency situations

Qualifications

To qualify for the Utility Systems Repairer-Operator at the WG-08 level, your resume must demonstrate the following:Assist a journey-level utility systems repair operator in performing the following basic tasks under very close supervision and regular inspection to ensure proper performance: Perform preventive maintenance on boilers, chillers, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), compressors and emergency power equipment.
To qualify for the Utility Systems Repairer-Operator at the WG-10 level, your resume must demonstrate the following:Assist a journey-level utility systems repair operator in performing some of the following basic tasks under very close supervision and regular inspection to ensure proper performance: Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on boilers, chillers, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), compressors and emergency power equipment. Maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical equipment including boiler tubes and drums, burners, flame safety equipment, chemical feed devises, conductivity system, valves, steam traps, strainers, gauges, pumps, fans sluice gates, traveling screen, heat exchangers, instrument and service air compressors, fuel oil tanks, chiller compressors, refrigerant transfer system, sewage comminutors, diesel engines, and auxiliary plant equipment.
To qualify for the Utility Systems Repairer-Operator at the WG-11 level, your resume must demonstrate the following: Perform some of the following duties with normal supervision: Maintain, repair, and test a variety of complex equipment and systems involving power boilers, single and multiple fuel power boilers, and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment. Plans and lays out installation, repair, and/or modification of a variety of complex equipment and systems. Apply and interpret information in detailed blueprints, charts, and sketches to adjust, replace, and repair equipment. Maintain records and document actions.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision
Job Elements: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:
- Knowledge of equipment, assembly, installation, repair, etc..
- Technical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic)
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works around operating equipment, refrigeration plant, steam tunnels, manholes, mechanical rooms, etc. The operating areas are noisy, hot or cold, dusty and dirty and contain moving equipment and pressurized piping systems, which can be hazardous if improperly operated. The plant and the building contain hazardous chemicals that require special handling procedures and protection. Conditions require that appropriate safety gear such as hard hats, hearing protection, protective eyewear and gloves be worn.
