UX Architect

Alcon, the global leader in eye care, is seeking skilled UX Designer with expertise in medical device industry and user focused design to help shape best-in-class graphical user interfaces design guidance for a surgical suite of products. Products range from web-based interfaces to device kiosk interfaces that harmonize with physical hardware design. Successful candidate to work within the Industrial Design (ID) department alongside other UI/UX designers to facilitate design guidance harmonization GUI interfaces across product teams. He/she will collaborate with R&D project teams, Hardware ID, Human Factors, Software, clinical experts, and Branding to build, coordinate, and manage UI/UX design language deliverables, such as: design review presentations, UX behavior specifications based on industry standards and best practices in the medical device space, interactive UI visual design guidance and asset libraries for software development teams. Position is full-time and located within Southern California to work with R&D product teams.

Responsibilities:

• Co-define deliverables/milestones with stakeholders based on project timelines, business goals, and user needs within the platform portfolio
• Facilitate product vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping and user-testing experiences for digital products
• Collaborate and aids in a consistent vision for ophthalmic surgical instrumentation to build a consistent product brand across surgical products
• As a subject matter expert of UX, provide stakeholder inputs to product team design reviews
• Conduct UX design reviews of with stakeholders to ensure alignment across the project
• Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences
• Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces
• Identify design problems and devise elegant solutions
• Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features
• Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs
• Ask smart questions, take risks and champion new ideas
• Compliance to all applicable standards including IEC, ISO an ANSI governing styling, colors, alarms and functions

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
• 5 Years of Relevant Experience
• Work hours: M-F, standard
• Travel Requirements: 0-5%

Preferred Experience/Skills

• Experience as an UX Designer or bachelor's degree in relevant field
• UX design portfolio
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and medical device industry best practices and standards
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Problem solver and customer-centered
• Knowledge of Adobe range of products including Adobe XD, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, Dreamweaver and other industry standard UI/UX design tools
