Job Description

Torch Technologies, a 100 percent employee-owned company, is seeking a professional Senior UX Designer and Graphic Artist to join the Advanced VizLab (AVL) team currently developing cutting edge visualization products including virtual training devices. Candidates applying for this position will have the opportunity to contribute to enhancing existing products as well as developing designs for new products.

The candidate selected for this position will be a member of an agile cross functional development team working closely with product, developers, 3D artists, and subject matter experts. Our teams are developing prototypes applications, virtual training devices for multiple XR platforms, a virtual training device framework, enterprise services and spatial computing applications using game development technology.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

• You are expected to be a positive, engaged, and contributing team member, both with your Scrum team, functional Team, lab, and across the company.
• You will collaborate daily with fellow designers, and teammates in product, development, and 3D art to create industry leading products for military and commercial customers.
• You will develop storyboards, wireframes, flowcharts, and art assets to support new feature development, as well as to enhance existing capabilities.
• You will ensure designs are well researched and consistent with industry best practices as well as AVL standards.
• You will provide leadership and mentorship to other designers providing peer reviews of their design work and guide them as they advance their skills as designers.

Personal Requirements:

• Exceptional interpersonal communications skills. Able to effectively communicate in verbal, written, visual and prototype forms. Good at translating feedback from stakeholders and users into future design iterations.
• Must be organized, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and understand business needs. Able to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Offer advice and suggestions for improving the design and development processes used in the AVL.
• Excited to explain complex technical concepts and share knowledge with diverse audiences both internally and externally.
• Demonstrated skill in working directly with users and research subjects to gain insights to inform design choices

Technical Requirements:

• An expert at designing intuitive user experiences through the creation of wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
• Demonstrated ability to create visual and interaction designs for user interface components in complex applications: including layout, look and feel, usability, and human factors
• Experience performing user research to gain deep understanding of challenges and shortcoming of existing solutions using practices such as stakeholder interviews, contextual inquiry, heuristic analysis, and other activities essential to the discovery process
• Ability to create and conduct usability tests using low to high fidelity prototypes with relevant metric capture capabilities to support planning and decision making
• Collaborate with program managers and technical leads to plan product development and ensure consistency of design is maintained through the development process
• Work as part of an integrated team to rapidly iterate on new solutions and apply best practices for design methods in Agile processes
• Demonstrated Mastery of Design and Graphics Tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, XD, etc.)
• Experience creating visual assets to support branding, iconography, and UI for games or software products
• Experience with Agile methodologies and Iterative Design
• 8 Years of Experience and a BA or BS degree in graphic design, multimedia design, computer mediated communication (CMC), computer science or a related field of study from an accredited course of study is required

Desired but Not Required Experience:

• Certification or Training as a Scrum Master or in Scrum
• Experience in a Military Environment and with Military Equipment
• Familiarity with mobile app development and AR/VR design
• Prototyping experience in Unreal Engine, Unity or Autodesk products
