UX Designer

We are looking for an experienced UX Designer to join our Core Services team and help us build better, more responsive, and more user-centered tools and software to support the whole firm. 

Core Services is responsible for Jane Street’s underlying technology platform. We collaborate with teams and users in a wide variety of disciplines across the firm, so we’re very invested in building an intentional design culture that helps everyone at Jane Street do their best work.

With direct access to a diverse user community, you'll be uniquely positioned to help our team understand what people need to do their jobs, and to ensure that our products can be built in alignment with what people are trying to do. You will help teams better understand how they can approach user-centered research and how they can deploy these methods early and often during the product life cycle. 

Your work will unpack the needs of technical individuals at the firm, while also providing value to non-power-users. We expect you to help us distill complex routines of your user community into approachable design solutions that can be used by people at all levels of technical skill.

We are looking for someone who is willing to take the time needed to learn about our work and existing processes, while being flexible as we build a design presence. The focus of your initial work will be tightly scoped so that you can adapt to the teams, meet people, and learn about our domain. Over time, your scope of work will grow. 

Design production and crafting user experiences will certainly be a part of your daily work, but as you gain experience across projects, we want to empower you to offer your insights on UX decisions across the group, advocate for usability testing across other teams beyond Core Services, standardize user research methodologies, and further define how our engineers can best partner with a design collaborator.

• 5+ years of experience in UX design with a professional portfolio (please include a link to this in your resume or elsewhere in your application)
• Interested in helping our users and passionate about making their lives easier
• Comfortable working on problems that rarely have clean, definitive answers; happy to make immediate, incremental improvements where there is obvious value
• Can think outside the box and bring a new perspective to our approach and methodology
• Comfortable sharing ideas and designs early, and rapidly updating them within nebulous problem spaces
• Enjoys collaborating with a wide range of colleagues with different skill sets and levels of experience; we are approachable, humble, and curious, and we’re looking for someone who embodies those traits
• Excited to learn about our work and, over time, develop a vision to improve and expand our existing toolkit and a plan to get us there
• Fluency in English required
