Job Description

As a UX Designer at Data Society, you will be responsible for working directly with customers to uncover their goals and transform them into usable, accessible, highly functional and delightful interactive experiences. You will work closely with product managers and our development team to create clickable wireframes, mockups, functional requirements and finished products. You should understand basic HTML and CSS, and while coding skills are not required, you should have a good understanding of how web technologies like single page React apps, component libraries, APIs, and Databases work and how to design with them in mind.
You should be comfortable working in an agile environment, and familiar with concepts like scrums, sprints, story refinement, and demo days.
Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery sessions for new projects and create user stories from them.
  • Create UX artifacts like personas and customer journeys.
  • Create low-fidelity clickable wireframes, present them to customers for feedback, and test them with representative future users.
  • Write functional requirements from your user stories and wireframes with product managers and developers.
  • Create high-fidelity clickable mockups, present them to customers for feedback, and test them with representative future users.
  • Work closely with the development team to answer design questions and create or change designs as needed. We operate on the principle that the fastest way to solve an engineering problem is often design, and the fastest way to solve a design problem is often engineering.

Skills you bring

  • You are very experienced with Figma. We use it for our design work.
  • You have some experience in Adobe products like Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • You are familiar with the difference between low and high fidelity designs.
  • You understand usability and how to create web products that are visually appealing but also intuitive.
  • You have significant experience with accessibility, and how to design for it. We strive for full 508 and WCAG compliance.
  • You have experience in responsive design, and how to create designs that work well at any screen size.
  • You can communicate professionally with customers and users while gathering requirements and testing designs.
  • You have at minimum a basic understanding of HTML and CSS, and how they are used to turn designs into web pages and applications.Β
  • Experience with JavaScript and React are considered strong pluses. This role isn’t required to write code, but knowing how your designs will be built is always helpful, as is being able to write or edit code yourself.
  • You will need to be able to open Visual Studio, pull the latest code from our repo, and run it locally so you can help check how your designers were implemented. Basic familiarity with how Git and branches work is a strong plus.

A portfolio or collection of past work is expected for this position. It can be shared privately if you don’t or can't share it on a live website.

The ideal candidate for this role is located within the Continental US and able to work on EST hours. This position is able to be fully remote for the right candidate. Current salary range is $90,000-$110,000 though we are open to negotiation. This position is eligible for full benefits including health, medical, dental, short and long-term disability, and life insurance, as well as our 401k, transit subsidy, unlimited PTO, and 15 paid holidays during 2024.
