Job Description

The UX Designer is responsible to create simple, easy, consistent online banking experiences that help more users create accounts online, bank online, get loans online, make payments online, and increase their relationship with the credit union. This position will play a critical role in digital transformation across all aspects of Credit Union banking, including enrolling online, banking online, bill paying, managing funds, and applying for loans.

What you will do here:

We're looking for a UX Designer with a history of building successful mobile-first web apps. Your attention to creating a simple, easy, consistent online banking experience will help more users create accounts online, bank online, get loans online, make payments online, and increase their relationship with the credit union.

You'll be the expert on designing and improving the user journey through our banking and lending apps. You will need to:

  • Have the interest and take the time to learn our banking apps inside and out so your designs support the purpose, function, and desired outcomes of each app.
  • Be fanatical about understanding and improving the user flow through each page/step in order to help more users complete the apps.
  • Obsess over abandon points, deploy click-track/heat-map tools to understand page behavior, engage A/B test tools to compare design options, and test interactions/designs with actual users.
  • Bring knowledge of the latest design trends and best-practices and be willing to assess competitive products.
  • Understand and support our brand while ensuring designs meet accessibility standards.

You'll be an integral part of the product team and must excel at collaborating to find solutions. This means:

  • Partnering with product managers to collect, document, and assess requirements and brainstorm approaches.
  • Creating wireframes and high-fidelity clickable prototypes that demonstrate product interaction to customers, while maintaining separate versions for MVP and future states.
  • Working closely with the front-end dev team to create a process/toolset so your interaction & design elements are turned over in a way that reduces dev time.
  • Creating and enforcing reusable design/class/component libraries, optimizing content & designs to reduce latency, and maintaining images on the CDN.
  • Testing to ensure the end product works as designed and is a pixel-perfect match to your design.

What you will need:

Bachelor's degree in in UX/UI Design, Human-Computer Interaction or other relevant field preferred; or Equivalent combination of education and experience required.

3+ years proven experience as a UX Designer building successful mobile-first web apps and with a strong portfolio showcasing successful design projects related to online banking, financial services, or complex user workflows required.

Expertise in information architecture, interaction design and interface design required.

Proficiency with wireframing and prototyping tools (e.g., Axure, Balsamiq, Sketch, Figma) and design-testing tools required.

Proficiency in grasping and distilling highly complex issues and translating them into clean, focused, understandable solutions required.

Exceptional communication and storytelling skills that can create buy-in for user-centered product strategy, as well as an ability to speak on a technical level and communicate clearly within your team and beyond required.

Solid understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices required.

Familiarity with front-end development concepts and working collaboratively with development teams required.

Experience with user research methodologies, usability testing, and data-driven design decisions required.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment required.

Ability to gracefully give and receive critical feedback required.

Knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines required.

Graphic design skills are a plus preferred.

We are proud to be an EEO/AA employer M/F/D/V. We maintain a drug-free workplace and perform pre-employment substance abuse testing.
