UX Engineer
Job Description
Applied Research Solutions is seeking a full-time User Experience (UX) Engineer to research lab integration needs and design efficient and intuitive experiences for a variety of users on our suite of tools. The UX/UI Engineer needs to have an innovative and creative outlook and will work with AFRL staff and other contractors to support the Hangar 18 Lab Integration Project. This includes working with our software engineers and graphics team to design the look-and-feel, working with the users to design user interfaces, working with cloud architects to provide efficient workflows, and working with our developers on implementation.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with senior developers and designers to create user focused tools and experiences for a broad range of new projects and existing products
- Work closely with the Product Owner, End Customer, and End Users to balance needs and wants into Initiatives, Epics, and Stories
- Work closely with the Development team to refine Epics and User Stories into incremental functionality that provide benefit to the End User in a timely manner
- Create designs that align with the user needs; prepare interaction diagrams, mockups, and wireframes
- Design and present work to team members for review and feedback
- Plan and define strategy for the direction of future iterations
- Conduct testing to ensure that the developed functionality meets the user's needs
- Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications
- Deliver presentations and workshops on User Experience and Use Centered Design to audiences of varied experience
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen
- Minimum 3 to 7 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, or similar role
- Bachelor's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, Applied Research Psychology, Graphics Design, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with a variety of design and prototyping tools such as AdobeXD, Figma, Miro, Mural
- Familiarity with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript development or experience collaborating with developers utilizing these technologies
- Must possess a portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating great user-centered design solutions
- Demonstrated experience designing software products for desktop browser applications
- Must possess a thorough understanding of User Centered Design and ability to conduct new or experienced teams through the process
- Understanding of graphic design and UI design concepts, and human factors for software applications
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other UI development tools
- Must possess excellent writing, communication, organization, presentation, and storytelling skills. Comfortable speaking to a large audience
- Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs
- Familiarity with designing JavaScript frameworks and libraries (e.g., Angular, React, VUE, Material UI) preferred
- Have an innovative and creative outlook
