Job Description
Submittable is a growing social impact platform used by thousands of companies, governments, and philanthropic organizations to manage their social impact programs and maximize their impact.
Submittable has helped big and small organizations worldwide run 134,000 programs and collect nearly 22 million applications to date, and is backed by Accel-KKR, Next Coast Ventures, True Ventures, Next Frontier Capital, StepStone Group and a few other amazing investors.
Submittable is looking for an experienced UX Researcher to join our team in Seattle, WA or Missoula, MT. The UX Researcher plays a critical role in Submittable’s Product organization, facilitating the understanding of user needs, motivations, and behaviors so that our teams can craft best-in-class product experiences. This role is responsible for end-to-end research activities, including planning, recruiting participants, moderating sessions, analyzing data, and communicating insights. Reporting to the Product Design Manager, this role works closely with design peers to drive—or occasionally assist—in performing research across different product initiatives.
While we are open to individuals with specialization in either qualitative or quantitative methods, we are looking for someone who is familiar with and capable of doing both. As the first UX Researcher at Submittable, this role has the unique opportunity to develop research as a core competency at the organization and make a significant impact.
This is a full time position and reports to the Product Design Manager.
The UX Researcher responsibilities include:
- Plan and execute research initiatives—whether generative or evaluative—to address specific product design or business questions
- Perform a range of qualitative, quantitative, and hybrid research methods: e.g. user interviews, ethnography, card sorting, usability testing, A/B or multivariate testing, heuristic evaluation, etc.
- Collect and analyze data in a way that is efficient, well-organized, and preserves data integrity
- Ensure a high-quality experience for research participants: adhere to practices for maintaining user privacy, scheduling, and remuneration
- Occasionally facilitate domain and/or competitive research to assist our teams in better understanding the competitive landscape in which we operate
- Communicate research findings to peers and stakeholders in an objective yet persuasive manner
- Contribute your perspective throughout the development lifecycle, instilling research findings into product decision-making, roadmapping, and innovation processes
- Balance rigorous methodology with efficient pragmatism, understanding that tight deadlines and competing priorities sometimes require plans to adapt
- Develop a process for gathering and communicating in-product feedback on an ongoing basis
An ideal candidate will have these qualities and experience:
- 2+ years of experience conducting UX research at a product-led organization, evidenced through a portfolio of well-documented case studies
- Broad skill set in both qualitative and quantitative methods
- Confidence in when to utilize a certain method over another based on research objectives, timeline, or other variables
- Excellent observational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Propensity to jump in and help others, especially as a consult to peers undertaking their own research
- Driven by curiosity, empathy, and strong user intuition
We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States, however, we are unable to accommodate scholastic or employment visas at this time.
