Job Description

Summary
Do you want to change the world? Do you want to help fix healthcare? Do you want your work to have a real, measurable impact on the lives of millions of people around the world every day?
Nuance, the pioneer and leader in conversational AI, is looking for a flexible and experienced User Experience Researcher to support and execute user research engagements driving the next wave of innovation for our Dragon Medical One (DMO) application, a renowned speech recognition and AI product that is Ranked #1 by KLAS and Black Book. Dragon Medical enjoys significant market penetration, loyal customers, and exciting global growth opportunities. With Microsoft's recent acquisition of Nuance, the opportunities to leverage our leading AI and voice technologies to significantly transform physician workflows has reached an entirely new level.
Your challenge is to help extend our industry-leading ambient AI solutions into Dragon Medical One, to enable a guided documentation experience driven by insights derived from product usage, patient data and spoken clinical interactions. Drive the "Dragon of the Future" and continuous product innovation as you work in tight collaboration with Nuance's expert product teams to expose key unmet clinical needs, and help define the solution-to-problem alignments that inform priorities for future growth and investment.
The User Researcher will focus on product discovery and concept design in collaboration with senior UX Researchers and Designers, Product Management colleagues, and a multi-disciplinary team of experts at Nuance. Success in this role will require resourcefulness, and an organized approach to quantitative and qualitative research and analysis, that seeks to develop an intimate understanding of user pain-points and remediation. The User Researcher will spend considerable time on the frontlines with clinicians and healthcare providers, observing and analyzing workflows for both Dragon and our ambient, AI-driven products.
You have:
  • 3+ years' experience with conducting user research studies at all phases of the product development lifecycle, and synthesizing actionable insights that inform product development
  • Patience, a calm demeanor, and a sense of humor.
  • Confident presentation, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Planning and execution of early user research discovery activities including contextual inquiry, conceptual user modeling, task analysis and user interviews to inform new product definition.
    • Execution of research artifacts that guide product development, including JTBD frameworks, service blueprints and user journey maps, user profiles (personas), workflow diagrams and information architecture schemas.
    • Facilitation of iterative user feedback cycles, including usability testing and user surveys, to drive incremental improvements in existing products.
    • Delivery of timely research reports and playbacks in support of user research analysis and synthesis activities.
    • User requirements gathering activities including business analysis, task analysis, design sprints and user interviews.
    • UX research tools including Dovetail, Qualtrics and Miro, familiarity with UX and UI design tools including Figma.
  • Designing consistent user experiences across different user interaction and device contexts (e.g. conversational input vs. GUI, mobile vs. desktop, tablet).
  • Maintain clear priorities and work efficiently within a fluid, agile product development ecosystem.
  • Regularly communicate upward and outward on program progress.
  • Understanding of HIPAA compliance and securing patient health information.

Education: BS or higher (MS preferred) in User Experience Design, Interaction Design, HCI or a UX design-related field or equivalent experience.
Preferred experience:
  • Healthcare product delivery and/or clinical documentation experience.
  • The creation of functional prototypes for user testing and feedback.

We are known for:
  • Best in KLAS 2021 + 2022 by KLAS Research
  • #1 Solutions Provider by Black Book Market Research
  • Earning Boston Business Journal's "Best Places to Work" and The Boston Globe's "Top Places to Work" recognition, including for Best Perks, Benefits and Pay.
  • Being a world-class team with an open mind for innovative ideas.
