UX/UI Engineer

Position Purpose

The product engineering team’s mission is to deliver and maintain software solutions that drive revenue and improve the traveler experience provided by SmarterTravel products. As a key team member, this person will ensure site stability as traffic increases along with our revenue goals. As a Front End developer, this role is responsible for building a world-class travel website using Gatsby and React.js. The developer will use their research and problem-solving skills to help us create dynamic user-centric web interfaces. As a front-end engineer at SmarterTravel, this role will bring knowledge to design websites. 

Role & Responsibility

• Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, designers, and other engineers to build, iterate, and ship new features to advance the SmarterTravel products inline with overall business objectives.
• Follow the company's development, operational standards, and processes and strive to make them better.
• Design UI elements and tools such as navigation menus, search boxes, tabs, and widgets for our digital assets.
• Adhere to style standards on typography and graphic design.

Education/Experience

• This role should have experience working with the back-end team to build complex user interactions from scratch or within existing frameworks.
• 1-2 years of relevant work experience, building responsive user interfaces
• A B.S. in software engineering or related field preferred
• JavaScript/TypeScript
• React
• A passion for personal growth and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly
• Experience with the technologies commonly used in our environment is required: GitHub,  Linux or OSX
• An eye for UI layout & design would be awesome but not required
• Experience implementing A/B tests
• An understanding of how to code accessibility into a website
• Nice to haves: Gatsby.js, Performance Optimization (front-end), Python, Ruby on Rails, Docker
