JOB SUMMARY

The Validation Engineering Specialist role is dynamic and vital to GILLIG’s growth and future product development. The correct individual will be responsible for developing validation processes that support documentation and traceability of requirements and validation test methods that support the validation of Vehicles, Systems and Components. Occasionally there may be a need for supporting testing activities within the group.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead activities within the work group to develop and deploy engineering standards for defining and managing requirements along with the associated design verification (DV) and production validation (PV) processes for new Components, Systems, and Vehicles
  • Lead activities within the work group to develop and deploy engineering standards to define and confirm compliance with vehicle and system level requirements for new models, including complete traceability between requirements, test results and test reports
  • Act as Technical Expert and Subject Matter Expert within the validation team. Support development of validation processes and traceability of requirements
  • Produce and/or evaluate possible design solutions to improve cost, quality, delivery, and performance on specialized knowledge of engineering applications together with possible involvement of other functional engineers and/or customer/supplier personnel
  • Work cross functionally with stakeholders on the technical issues resulting from validation activities that affect the product design, production cycle-time & cost
  • Work closely with the Engineering teams to understand customer requirements
  • Develop testing methods and engineering documentation to support design of robust components and systems which will be proven by test
  • Guide, supervise and lead complex failure analysis as required
  • Operate in a team environment and provide input supporting design solutions during the design development phase
  • Fundamental knowledge and application of industry practices and standards (SAE, ISO, IEC, NFPA, NEC, ADA, APTA, etc.)
  • Identify the best ideas and avoid potential problems, and understands and introduces innovative technologies as needed for the best design
  • Develop individual analytical skills and is also knowledgeable about the best tools and methods to analyze a given design problem and develop a good understanding of design risk factors
  • Apply insight and mechanical/electrical design sense to develop and meet design requirements with product designs that are manufacturable, cost-efficient, reliable, and better than the competition
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis within the work group and suppliers
  • Performs other duties as required

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or other Engineering discipline preferred. Master’s degree in an engineering discipline a plus
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive product engineering experience required
  • Demonstrated technical responsibility in automotive, on/off highway or transportation equipment in a program or project support level
  • Demonstrated experience with any or all the following: ICE, electrified powertrains, collision avoidance and autonomous vehicle technology, root cause analysis, chassis/body structures, steering/suspension systems, air brake systems and vehicle dynamics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FMVSS, ADA, APTA Bus Procurement Guidelines, SAE HD vehicle standards, NFPA
  • Experience in developing systems requirements, validation and verification strategies, and verification planning as well as facilitating the successful completion of verification compliance activities
  • Working knowledge in electrical power distribution including AC and DC systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge with automotive components such as Embedded controls, circuit breakers, relays, and wiring, etc.
  • Solid understanding of automotive industry standards such as SAE, ISO, NFPA, FMVSS etc.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing process and environments
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot automotive electrical and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to prioritize assigned tasks and work    

ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand and walk and occasionally kneel or squat
  • Some travel may be required
  • Start time 7:00 AM (negotiable)

Salary: $ 138,631 - $173,289
