Job Description

(This position is Hybrid located in New York City or Armonk, NY)

About the team

In this role, you will be part of the Valuation Risk Management (VRM) team, a global team responsible for evaluating and reporting on the risks associated with the fair value of the investment portfolio. The VRM team acts as a second line of control, ensuring that investment valuations accurately reflect current market conditions. The Independent Price Verification (IPV) process is a key component of VRM and helps to ensure the quality of investment valuations and address any issues.

VRM is part of the Financial Risk Management (FRM) group, which is responsible for managing all financial market and credit risks throughout the Swiss Re Group. This includes monitoring risks associated with the core reinsurance business and investment and asset-liability matching activities.

About the role

As a Product Specialist for Private Investments, you will be responsible for conducting an Independent Price Verification (IPV) assessment of asset prices. You will have complete ownership over the IPV process and must be able to defend your assessments and pricing decisions. Your role includes challenging the front office and other stakeholders if there are any potential pricing issues. Additionally, you will prepare regular reports for management outlining the overall IPV results, pricing issues, and valuation risks.

In addition to IPV, your duties will include monitoring the valuation risks of your product coverage, assessing the uncertainty in asset pricing, and understanding the risks associated with investments and portfolios. You should have the ability to connect changes in investment performance, macroeconomic factors, and other external factors to pricing. You will also be continuously seeking ways to enhance the existing IPV processes, tools, and methodologies to maintain a strong control environment.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to interact with various teams within Swiss Re, including Asset Management, Middle Office, Product Control, and Finance. In this role, stakeholders are located in both Armonk and New York City, so the ability to work from either office location may be required.

About You

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience in private debt or alternative investments with a focus on pricing and/or credit fundamentals.
  • The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of private debt/alternative investments, associated risks, and pricing.
  • Ability to connect changes in asset performance or fundamental risks to pricing.
  • Be innovative and able to find alternative pricing methods when data and information may be limited.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare senior management reporting using effective messaging and visuals within Powerpoint, are a must.
  • The candidate should also have an eye for detail, a dedication to thorough understanding, and the ability to think critically.
  • Effective collaboration with a wide range of people and roles is essential in this position. The candidate should be able to work well in a cross-cultural environment and handle ambiguity with ease.
  • Self-motivation, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently are also required.

For New York City/Armonk the estimated base salary range for this position is $88,000 to $132,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
