The value engineer supports the engineering design to maximize product function, while minimizing costs. Focus is on various components and materials, working with designers, engineers, sourcing and supplier contacts. Review of new or existing product to reduce costs without affecting quality.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:

  • Identifies areas of product design where costs can be reduced without compromising function.
  • Identifies areas of design and manufacturing for product value improvement. Suggests plans to obtain, process and synthesize information that would result in a recommendation for a course of action.
  • Acts independently to determine methods and procedures for enhancing product development within division.
  • Works on issues that impact design/selling success based on value.
  • Must be able to effectively promote ideas to designers, engineers and suppliers. Promotes and maintains a culture where others are able to imagine alternatives and are empowered to identify and solve problems that lead to organizational improvement.
  • Works with design engineers, manufacturing engineers and others to determine changes which are needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Able to interpret corporate business strategies, technical roadmaps and external market conditions to originate action.
  • Seeks means to enhance skill set and possesses the ability to evaluate personal proficiency level.
  • Documents project involvement status and able to lead respective meetings as it relates to job.
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced co-workers.
  • Viewed as a technical leader and consultant.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of project status and issues that may require assistance.
  • Related duties:
  • Assists manufacturing/assembly during prototype, pilot, and production.
  • Keeps informed of new design, manufacturing and materials developments in the industry.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as may be requested

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university or college in an engineering related technology.
  • A minimum of ten years related experience in mechanical product development, preferably in the mobile equipment industry.
  • Must have a proven record of accomplishments and experience working with suppliers, engineers and designers.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications and preferably the SAP business system. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are required. Must be able to understand and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances.
  • Must be skilled in the use of CAD visualization software, preferably Creo View.
  • Must have prior work experience with manufacturing processes and quality requirements.
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision.

Other Job-Related Components:

  • Travel to vendors, manufacturing facilities, test sites, customers and others as required.
  • Supports company Quality Policy by working within the documented Quality System.

Competitive Salary - The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
