Variant Scientist, Product and Automation Analyst

We are looking for a Clinical Science Product and Automation Scientist who will help implement product improvements and automation to the clinical reporting pipeline. This position will work under the direction of the Product and Automation Lead and responsibilities will be split between product and automation efforts (50%) and clinical case analysis (50%).
Members of our Variant Science team work a variety of schedules (primarily Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday) in order to best serve our patients. A shift differential is applied for team members who are regularly scheduled to work a weekend day.
Responsibilities Include:
- Product and automation (50%)
- Help test and maintain Clinical Science workflows that are scalable, scientifically correct, and clinically responsible.
- Contribute to project plans aimed at addressing areas of improvement for variant classification and report generation.
- Support cross-functional efforts with Product, Operations, Bioinformatics, and other teams in the post-analytical testing pipeline.
- Support automation projects aimed at increasing efficiency, scientific accuracy, and decreasing TAT.
- Work with Clinical Science team members, operational project managers, and product managers to ensure smooth product implementation into clinical production.
- Clinical case review and literature curation (50%)
- Accurately classify somatic and germline variants for solid tumor and liquid biopsy NGS panels.
- Utilize a variety of in-house software tools to analyze clinical molecular data.
- Read and interpret scientific literature and curate relevant findings in a clear, concise, and precise manner.
- Summarize somatic and inherited genetic test results to generate high quality clinical reports.
- Perform critical quality control functions for molecular reports that comply with quality management programs and standard operating procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency as a Variant Scientist or higher level with an understanding of Tempus processes, interconnected products, and policies.
- MS, GC, or PhD degree in Cancer Genetics, Human Genetics, or Biological Sciences
- Must be organized, have utmost attention to detail, and possess excellent communication and writing skills
- Ability to accurately follow formal documentation and protocols
- Ability to work in both an individual and group setting. Must be flexible and able to adjust priorities according to workload or management needs.
