Venture Innovation Analyst

This role offers a hybrid work schedule; offering the flexibility to work remotely two days a week, while providing the opportunity for in-person collaboration.

Overview:

Scope of Responsibilities:

The Product Innovation Analyst supports the Ventures and Product Innovation team by conducting industry and company research, performing due diligence, and creating and presenting reports to assist in identifying strategic themes, partners and opportunities for the Bank. Manages and tracks the performance and strategic direction of existing partnerships and investments. As an Analyst, you will directly support our leadership and the team as they advise senior leaders through market research, critical analysis, thought leadership, and building/maintaining our internal knowledge infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities

• Research and create industry perspectives on the impact of the competitive market of banking, fintech, venture capital and strategic investing in order to determine partnerships, investments and strategy.
• Compiles supporting information to develop and produce complex ad hoc analyses and reports (incl. project analysis, trend reporting, strategic analysis, etc). Inclusive of synthesizing large volumes of qualitative and quantitative information for analysis and decision making on FinTech partnerships. Participates as a member of a decisioning team based on these analysis and reports.
• Create, develop and present recommendations to key senior leaders of the Bank.
• Manage and maintain our internal tools, knowledge bases (e.g., team enterprise website, relationship management platform) in order to have pertinent information at the time of decisioning.
• Act as a liaison with top venture firms, accelerators and startup companies and brings external perspectives back to the Bank.
• Identify and coordinate opportunities for business lines to participate in proof of concepts with potential fintech partners.
• Support planning and implementation of new projects, products, programs and initiatives to achieve short and long-term business objectives and strategic outcomes.
• Be an evangelist for thinking outside of the box and bringing external perspectives back to the Bank.
• Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Education/Experience Required:

• Bachelor's degree and minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with a Financial Institution, premier consulting company or an investment bank (M&A, Capital Markets, Equity Research) or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 7 years higher education and/or work experience of relevant experience with a Financial Institution, premier consulting company or an investment bank (M&A, Capital Markets, Equity Research)
• Demonstrated advanced proficiency to analyze problems, apply quantitative analytical approaches, communicate effectively and confidently (both oral and written), and work well in cross-functional teams
• Ability to effectively work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Skills to navigate cross functional business processes and Industry trends
• Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter able thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, cross-functional, results-driven environment

Preferred Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
• Experience working on innovation, startup operating experience and/or venture investments
• Prior experience playing similar role in financial or fintech world
• In depth understanding of the venture capital and fintech ecosystem
