We are seeking a talented, passionate and experienced Visual Effects Artist to create stunning visual effects for the Guild Wars 2 franchise. The ideal candidate will have strong mix of artistic and technical skills, and a desire to learn and grow. Expect to take on the challenges of AAA game development to produce awe-inspiring in game visual effects that support gameplay, cinematics, props, and environments.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Work, learn, and grow with a small group of motivated VFX artists.
• Work closely with the Visual Effects Lead, Creative, Design, Engineering and Production teams to develop and execute visual effects concepts and ideas.
• Leverage our proprietary tools, photoshop, and Maya to create effects that balance the visual needs with our performance and design requirements.
• Build productive working relationships inside and outside of the VFX team.
• Aid in developing, documenting, and presenting best practices for VFX team.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

• A portfolio or demo reel that showcases your artistic and technical skills and an excellent understanding of real-time visual effects and visual design.
• Previous shipped games as a Visual Effects artist.
• Ability to identify larger sub discipline problems and cross discipline problems while communicating issues and helping find solutions.
• Experience crafting custom materials/shaders.
• Keen understanding of particle, geometry, ribbons, beams and material use for real time visual effects.
• Ability to author texture source from scratch, photo/video reference and create flipbooks.
• Highly motivated, self-starter, creative thinker, requiring little to no guidance.
• Able to follow direction and collaborate productively with co-workers.
• Accurately and consistently estimate content creation time.
• Strong grasp of the overall ArenaNet visual style for Guild Wars.

PLUSES

• Background in painting, concept art, or animation.
• Strong understanding of game development pipelines.
• Understanding of material creation.
