Vice President, Data Science

We are seeking an experienced machine learning and data science leader to build a best-in-class data science team, develop and implement data science products and models to revolutionize the way we interact with customers and manage credit risk. You’ll lead and develop a group of talented data scientists, leverage existing and new data assets to better risk decisioning, and advance our culture of data-driven decision-making. You will be collaborating with a versatile team of data scientists and financial professionals to design and implement models underlying the core functions of Octane’s lending business and loan portfolios.

Responsibilities: 

• Lead and mentor a team of Data Scientists to build machine learning powered predictive models for Octane’s real-time credit and technology systems
• Continuously drive improvements in Octane’s modeling approach and architecture
• Work with credit bureaus and data vendors to identify novel data sources, adopt the best data intelligence, best scores, and best practices in the industry
• Create and nurture relationships across levels and organizations, helping to identify areas of opportunity where data science products can accelerate growth, better risk decisions, and deliver a frictionless customer experience
• Be a change agent, champion data analytics, and help advance our culture of data-driven decision-making

Requirements: 

• 10+ years of total experience in data science and advanced analytics with at least 5+ years of people management experience
• Advanced degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Engineering, etc.) with a wide range of examples of applying complex data science techniques to solve business problems
• Familiarity with AWS
• Exceptional skills in critical thinking, decision making, ability to influence without direct authority and resolve conflicts
• Industry experience within Consumer Credit, FinTech, Financial Services, or similar preferred
