About the role:
The Vice President, Engineering is a strategic contributor and system administrator of BlueLabs' data and engineering environments. They will work to ensure all data, applications, and resources are available and accessible; and leverage them for client success. Working collaboratively with engineering and data team members, they will also strategize, develop, and implement efficient and secure structures which support our client work. This position reports to the CEO.
In this position you will:
As the VP, Engineering, you will build and lead a division which develops and supports the engineering and technology that powers all of our programs across BlueLabs. In this tactical and strategic position, you will:
  • Manage and directly support engineering efforts at BlueLabs across our many disciplines and business areas
  • Support strong engineering, management, and mentoring cultures for engineering efforts throughout the company
  • Work across departments to implement processes that ensure effective communication, prioritization, and coordination between engineering and other parts of the company
  • Support and advise engineers to make strong technical decisions, through coaching and sometimes lending your expertise
  • Roll up your sleeves and make technical contributions that move the ball forward

What we are seeking:
  • Commitment to addressing current operational issues and challenges with existing technical infrastructure, while simultaneously planning and building for the future
  • A love for tackling big projects head-on, and learning new things. You stay on top of the latest developments in some of our key technology spaces-- such as devops and data engineering
  • Strong people management and leadership skills
  • A proactive, clear, and effective communication ability, both digitally and verbally; and with both technical and non-technical collaborators
  • Experience with data engineering / engineering in a data science context (some examples of technologies we use: AWS Redshift, Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, and Tableau)
  • Strong familiarity with production deployments in a cloud environment, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Strong project management experience; ability to keep many different projects and timelines moving forward at once with an eye toward future sustainability: a passion for documentation and collaboration
  • Comfort working in a client-oriented consulting environment - sometimes things move fast or unpredictably
  • Strong problem solving experience coupled with a proactive outlook
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with a diverse set of colleagues
  • Demonstrated interest in using technology to advance social good in areas like health, education or public sector

What recruitment looks like:
