Vice President, Investment Team
Job Description
About Ledger Investing
Ledger Investing is a startup that is transforming the way that insurance risks are financed. Today, Ledger is an online marketplace for connecting insurance risk to capital, focusing on securitization. Risk originators such as insurers and brokers get capital more efficiently than from traditional sources. Capital providers such as pension plans and other institutional investors get access to an asset class that is highly diversifying to traditional asset classes. Insurance securitization is already a $100 billion market but is limited in scope as a consequence of the opacity and complexity of the asset class. Ledger is working to expand the market to $1 trillion by building a seamless data pipeline from the policyholder to the capital markets, bringing transparency, objective analytics and real time portfolio insights to the table. As the company grows, we will be a marketplace for virtually all types of insurance risks and capital, including traditional reinsurers, institutional investors, and accredited investors. We are venture-backed by Y Combinator (class of winter 2017 class) and recently raised a $75 million series B to fund exponential growth.
What we do:
At Ledger Investing, what we are building includes a risk marketplace, an asset management arm (we run an investment fund with in excess of $170M in capital currently managed through our platform), and a broker dealer all built on our data pipeline Ledger Connect. Risk originators, like insurers and brokers, come to us to gain access to the capital markets but stay for Ledger Connect and the platform’s seamless integration and data services. Investors, like pension plans and other institutional investors, get access to an asset class that is completely uncorrelated with traditional financial asset classes.
Ledger's Investment Manager operates at the intersection of technology, finance and insurance. We are looking to add a stellar individual to our investment team. Ledger’s Investment Manager is responsible for all aspects of Ledger’s investment funds. This includes investing in securities that have exposure to casualty insurance risks that the team is responsible for structuring, evaluating, pricing and monitoring for our investors. The investment management team is also responsible for developing all investor focused products that align with our goal of bringing unparalleled data analytics and transparency to investing in insurance risk as an asset class.
Data is critical to the success of Ledger and its managed funds. Our investment platform is built on a real time data pipeline that connects us into the underwriting and claims management systems of risk originators. The investment team makes investment decisions using this technology stack, developed by our Engineering and Data Science teams. The position will involve developing products in conjunction with our Engineering and Data Science teams for the benefit of our investors and reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer.
