Vice President, Sol Retail
Job Description
Sol Systems is seeking a senior professional to serve as Vice President of Retail and help lead our Environmental Commodities Management (ECM) team in our Washington, DC headquarters. This position will report directly to the CEO and work with the Vice President of ECM and Vice President of Risk. The VP of Retail will be responsible for managing all business and operational aspects of the retail and aggregation business and in charge of the growth strategy.
The position is ideal for an experienced manager and someone who has extensive business development experience and customer/channel partner relationships along with the ability to manage operations and customer service tasks and teams. The ideal candidate will have experience building and running a customer business with a specific focus on energy and/or environmental products. Sol’s Environmental Commodities Management (ECM) business is the oldest division at Sol. The ECM team has helped create multiple state solar renewable energy credit (SREC) markets through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and continues to help shape and create environmental markets throughout the United States. The ECM team has also raised capital with institutional and individual investors for solar projects and energy credit investing. The team manages well over 20,000 customers and multiple renewable energy certificate (“REC”) portfolios.
The Vice President of Retail will be responsible for:
- Manage the business development team focused on installer outreach and new market expansion for the company’s SREC aggregation business as well as the customer and installer account service team in charge of service fulfillment and retention.
- Manage the ECM operations team in charge of REC minting, retirement, and quality control.
- Oversee the development and management of Sol’s new retail electricity team. Creating a marketing plan and go to market strategy for Sol’s new retail REC business that will complement the existing SREC aggregation business.
- Manage corporate relationships, developing and marketing Sol’s voluntary REC services.
- Develop and enhance installer channel partnerships in SREC, REC and strategic new markets.
- Increase gross profit, capacity under management, customer count and installer partnerships.
- Work with IT to resolve technical issues that arise or building great efficiencies in the backend processes, including the management of the team’s CRM system. Support new IT products to better serve our partners and customers.
- Work with Legal to ensure contracts and compliance needs are being met at the highest standard.
- Manage, train, and mentor junior staff to support business development and operational efficiency.
 A successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- 10+ years of management experience; with exposure to business development teams and operational teams a plus
- 5-10 years of energy experience; with SREC and retail electricity a plus
- Strong understanding of solar and energy markets
- Experience managing and coaching subordinates and collaborating with executives
- Experience originating new partnerships with installers, developers, system owners or investors
- Existing and warm relationships with other solar installers and SREC generators
- Demonstrated ability to grow and manage a business
- Experience with financial modeling and cash flow forecasting
- Drive and flexibility to work at and build up a small but growing business
Location & Hours:Â This is a full-time role and will be based in our Washington, DC office.
