A Brief Overview
The Creative Director is responsible for determining the best ways to visually represent Stanford Hospital & Clinics digital video online identity. The Creative Director provides direction and expertise by designing and implementing video concepts that meet the business objectives and advance the organizational brand strategy. They establish creative direction for entire digital video team (includes independent contractors, agencies and production houses) and ensure that all creative work is executed on time and within budget from concept to completion.

General functions include strategic leadership and creative direction during all phases of pre-production, production and post-production. This includes research, writing, directing, interviewing, composition and production as well as a high level of digital editing and graphic creation. The Creative Director will ensure professional quality work by making independent decisions on all aspects of video production, equipment purchasing, hiring and managing independent contractors and collaborators while providing leadership and direction.

What you will do
  • Video Strategy (20%)
    Develop video strategy on how video can best be leveraged to drive SHC business goals.
    Analyze trends, look at new data and stay current on health-related developments as it relates to new media. Research competitors and keep abreast of market trends.
    Work closely with digital team members and the Business Development Directors and SHC physicians to identify opportunities that will amplify SHC's superior capabilities in complex care.
    Understand the online digital health consumer and how video content best meets their need for information.
  • Creative Director (50%)
    Develop fresh, creative and innovative approaches for enhancing SHC brand perception through video, an increasingly critical part of the digital marketing mix.
    Collaborate closely with the SHC service lines taking a leadership role in identifying and creating effective, compelling, strategic marketing content.
    Responsible for selecting, hiring, managing and directing all outside vendors to insure high level product consistent with our mission and vision.
    Provide creative guidance and direction to members of the digital video team
    Collaborate across all departmental teams to contribute to comprehensive and effective marketing strategies.
    Ensure team meets deadlines and stays within budget.
    Create and present storyboards when appropriate.
    Oversee campaigns from pre-production to completion.
    Cast actors for TV and radio work, including voiceovers.
    Work with Multimedia Manager to create Digital Online/Social Media presence.
  • Video Production (15%)
    Exhibit exceptional artistic vision and creativity to produce engaging, informative and entertaining content.
    Act as Director of Photography, possessing high level of creativity and technical knowledge of equipment, lighting and composition. Fully envision the look and feel of the project.
    Possess high level of knowledge for audio capture and monitoring.
    Create a sympathetic, compassionate and stress free shooting environment for both subject and crew. This is essential to inspire and motivate all involved.
    Complete understanding and mastering of on camera interviewing skills and deep knowledge for what the end product messaging should be.
    Possessing a high level of technical knowledge is key; so one must constantly research and stay current on changing technology.
    Determine, plan and execute all logistics for video production.
    Act as video liaison for SHC staff working with independent contractors.
    Research subject topic and create script questions. Interview subjects. Understand how subject will appear on screen and ensure that subject and message are consistent with quality standards.
    Provide professional direction to subjects by offering tips and techniques on how to conduct an effective on-camera interview.
    Produce monthly CEO video for internal distribution.
  • Video Editor (15%)
    Oversee post-production of several projects at once including managing and directing freelance editors.
    Balance project's creative requirements with schedule, budget and resource limitations.
    Maintain established quality standards in all post-production elements and deliverables.
    Responsible for the proper use, storage, maintenance and upgrading of all editing equipment.
    Organize video assets to be easily shared and archived. Responsible for maintaining database of source and master program files.
    Provide video post-production support for internal and offsite clients.
    Coordinate video post-production process to effectively manage project workflow, provide project direction for editing, and final deliverables, including planning and management of project timelines.
    Monitor and provide recommendations for improvement of the video production/post production process.
    Create video assets suitable for multiple mediums including web and mobile.
    Manage the evolution of the creative teams technology needs, recommending solutions and securing resources as needed.


Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience in a work-related discipline/field.


Experience Qualifications
  • Six plus (6+) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and ability to hire, direct and manage a wide range of independent producers, shooters, editors and animators.
  • Knowledge and expertise in video compression rates.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Knowledge of current video industry equipment, trends and resources.
  • Knowledge of interview techniques.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry and the policies and practices of the hospital.
  • Knowledge of social media outlets and opportunities for brand exposure.
  • Ability to troubleshoot a wide variety of problems with camera and sound equipment, computer systems, file maintenance and file conversions.
  • Ability to meet with a wide range of department heads and translate their goals from concept to completion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, visually and in writing.
  • Ability to conduct interviews with proficient knowledge of topic and sensitivity.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to operate a wide range of HD video camera packages.
  • Ability to operate a multitude of video editing platforms and graphic software.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate scheduling and logistics of video shoots.
  • Ability to use judgment and make sound decisions.
