Job Summary

We are seeking a Video Infrastructure Consultant to guide our company in evolving the capabilities of our video pipelines while ensuring they will scale with our growing user base and requirements. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in video streaming technologies, architecture, and the ability to address our specific industry needs. They will work closely with our team to learn, and make recommendations to architect and implement the future of video at GC.ย 

What youโ€™ll do

  • Assessment and Strategy Development - You will assess all aspects of our current video architecture and application requirements unique to GC users. You will get to know current pain points and future aspirations. You will develop a strategic roadmap with build/buy/partner decisions to best support our future needs. .

  • Infra Design & Scaling - You will assess our current scaling needs for video ingest, transcoding, storage, and client streaming. You will get to know our estimated growth and make a plan to help us to grow our video capabilities while continuing to meet demand.

  • Security, Privacy, and Content Moderation - You will study previous and current challenges weโ€™ve had to maintain a high standard to our userโ€™s best interests. You will get to know ways in which our platform has been misused. You will make recommendations on how we can build our future video infra to increase quality outcomes for our users regarding what video they are exposed to on our platform.

  • Video Operations - You will analyze and estimate how different options will impact cost to deliver video years into the future. You will make recommendations on metrics to collect to track and improve user experience over time.ย 

  • Team Formation - Based on video infra recommendations, you will give guidance on what type of team (size, and skills) GC will need to build and support that future.

Who you are

  • A technical architect that has experience with a wide variety of video architectures, tools, vendors, and technologies and can speak to the relative trade-offs when designing and building ingest, processing, delivery, and storage systems and the teams to support them.

  • Strong understanding of audio and video packaging principles, codecs, and other associated technologies, including their relative tradeoffs, such as MPEG Video, MPEG-2 TS, HLS, DASH, AVC/HEVC/VP9/AV1.

  • An excellent communicator and writer capable of breaking down complex projects and technical details for stakeholders of varying expertise.

  • Familiar with mobile device capabilities and the challenges of optimizing streaming quality and reliability over cellular networks.

Experience

  • Multiple years of hands-on professional experience with live streaming workflows, preferably in a consumer and mobile environment, and exposure to a wide breadth of video technologies in mobile broadcast, playback, and back-end systems at scale.

  • Experience in live-streaming and video on demand (VoD), transcoding, storage, and playback back-end architectures, frameworks, and vendors (including open source). We use AWS but any cloud experience is a bonus.

  • Experience in client-side and server-side dynamic ad insertion architectures and vendors.
