Video Operations Manager I

General Summary

The Video Operations Manager supports the livestreamof the daily talk shows by acting as director and technical director. This position supports day-to-day operationsof Connecticut Public's television station and assists in the coordination anddistribution of national and local content, promo management, studio technicaloperations, maintenance of automation servers, editing using Adobe CreativeCloud, and all aspects of studio production. Provides additional technical support for Television Original daily andweekly shows, including live and pre-taped shows and interviews.

Essential Functions

The Video Operations Manager provides a wide range of services. Applicants must have the ability to complete the following essential functions:

  • Conducts quality control of content before it airs to meet required technical specifications.

    Edits and assembles pre-taped segments and re-runs for live shows and works with produce

  • Conducts to facilitate the live and taped broadcast show airing of news, feature, and other programmatic content.
  • Ensures video content is delivered within the proper technical specifications including closed captioning to all distribution outlets.
  • Maintains and edits show promos across platforms and in areas like Marketing, Membership, and cross-promotional messaging.
  • Prepares graphics for live production in coordination with the show producer.
  • Records and edits video; produces and mixes content using video equipment and digital editing software and compiles and edits material necessary for production, to include post-production.
  • Retrieves and edits content during live and taped shows for distribution on video, audio, on-air servers, and digital platforms.
  • Sets cameras in place for production, completes technical checks, and troubleshoots as needed.
  • Supports onsite recordings and broadcasts, both remotely or on location.
  • Works closely with the Production Manager to meet the needs of production,
  • Works closely with the Director of Engineering to assist in the following functions:
    • Assists in overseeing and coordination of the continuous, multifaceted day-to-day operations of TV operations, ensuring compliance with FCC standards, and relevant federal and state laws and regulations.
    • Coordinates with content creators to ensure on-time delivery of audio-to-automation servers for playout.
    • Reviews and updates underwriter credits to ensure they meet technical specifications, and ensuring production adheres to format and procedural guidelines.
    • Solves complex technical issues related to studioproduction.

Responsibilities

This position has many responsibilities. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists in setting standards, operating procedures and provides/develops training for production staff to ensure that all best practices are being followed.
  • Assists with the integration of new technologies and new roles.
  • Assists with the setup and operation of live video streaming equipment, operating video equipment as needed; connects LiveU equipment, phone, Zoom and Skype for remote interviews.
  • Produces web content, including updates of web page, photography and photo editing in collaboration with the Visuals Team and Digital Services Bureau.
  • Logs information pertinent to FCC reporting and dailyoperations of CT Public broadcast equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Blackmagic Design technology
  • Industry standard video, audio, and captioning formats.
  • FCC Reporting requirements, broadcast law and other federal, state and local broadcasting regulations including closed captioning requirements.
  • Journalism standards and ethics.
  • Navigating complex organizations and making the right connections to drive work forward, while anticipating potential shifts in work.
  • On-air and remote broadcasting processes and procedures.
  • Public media organizational structures, workflows, systems, and operating procedures.
  • Telestream Vantage software and media transcode workflows.
  • Video production workflows including recording, QC, and live production terminology
  • Windows operating systems.

Skill in:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Adobe Premiere, Audition, and Encoder.
  • Communicating both verbally and in writing, promptly sharing information and ideas with others as needed, along with using active listening skills with which to negotiate and/or persuade.
  • Demonstrating effective time management and organizational skills to prioritize, organize, multi-task, and accomplish work in a timely manner, and meet specified deadlines.
  • Operating complex video equipment.
  • Staying informed on the latest trends in video production.
  • Studio Broadcast console and remote production operations.
  • Taking ownership and action within the scope of the position to ensure and/or improve the success of Company products and services.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment and handling multiple and changing priorities simultaneously.
  • Working in O365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.), Smartsheets, Slack and other platforms.
  • Writing and strong technical skills in digital editing with demonstrable experience in writing and producing audio content for public radio and news.

Ability to:

  • Define problems, collect data, and establish facts in order to draw valid conclusions as a change agent.
  • Lead multiple projects concurrently while paying close attention to detail.
  • Meet tight deadlines and perform under pressure of regionally-produced, national-quality broadcasting.
  • Support the execution of continuous broadcast schedules on a 24x7 basis.
  • Workwith editors and producers in team environment that includes several remoteoffices.

Additionally,the employee must have the ability to concentrate for extended periods withfrequent interruption and understand and relate to the concepts behind specificideas. Working Environment

Job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work. This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position which may include frequent in-person or virtual interactions. The normal workday is between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm; however, must work periodically on weekends, irregular hours, holidays, and as-needed abased on station operations tempo.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Communication,Journalism, or closely related field AND / OR a minimum of five (5) years direct and sustained professional working experience in positions directly related to audioproduction or broadcasting AND/OR any similar combination of education and experience,
