We are currently looking for an experienced Head of Composite Design. Leading a group of approximately 20 to 25 composite design engineers, the role is responsible for directing the designers in developing and continuously improving the quality, reliability, and performance of composite components. The Head of Composite Design assists in planning and strategizing for component/assembly development and race introduction and it’s also responsible for Legality.

Job Description

DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT

Lead the Composite Design Group in the design of F1 car components/assemblies.

Seek continuous improvement in the design execution and associated processes with a prime focus on car performance.

Lead all composite concept development and ensure that composite projects are delivered on time as per agreed planning.

Monitoring DO reaction to Non Conformity Reports, Fault resolution and the correct Bill of Materials maintenance and updates.

Optimize the allocation of whole design resources, including personnel and tools, to meet project deadlines and objectives. Identifying workforce requirements for design office workload each season.

Provide leadership and guidance to the Composite Design Group, developing workload plans in consultation with business partners.

Promote teamwork and effective communication to build up internal to the group and interdisciplinary relationship among different departments.

COMMUNICATION AND PROFESSIONAL RELATIONS

Provide correct information to be shared throughout the Design Office as a whole (FIA information/regulation/Communications not visible to all/whatever).

Fostering strong relationships with suppliers and proposing new ones. You will be responsible for managing deliveries and ensuring that the design office operates smoothly with the support of external partners.

Nurture the relationship with the Aero and Structural design department to support and achieve their targets for quality/compliance/strength/weight targets.

LEGALITY, QUALITY AND RELIABILITY

Implement quality control measures to ensure the delivery of high-quality design outputs (drawings/CAD models/Specifications/Info to the Track or similar) that meet or exceed client (internal Racing Bulls or external) expectations.

Liaise and support the Race Team concerning car reliability resolution and Car Legality.

Ensure the car is designed as per Technical Regulation in line with Design legality correct interpretation.

OTHER

Supporting budgeting and cost monitoring activities related to the Composite Design group.

Ensuring the Composite Design is properly checked and signed off.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Designer.

Qualifications

Degree in Engineering with a very strong knowledge of composite materials.

Multiple years' experience working within composite design in F1.

Previous experience as a design project leader for main composite structures such as chassis, gearbox, nose, and wings.

Previous experience in managing a large group of designers/department.

FEA understanding and experience is also a plus.

Excellent organization and ability to manage multiple projects.

Ability to lead composite design projects from concept to completion.

Prioritizes and pursues vehicle performance.

Strong knowledge of F1 technical regulations and composite materials and production techniques.

Strong English verbal and written communication skills required; Italian language fluency is preferred.
