The Role
Skillz is looking for a passionate Visual Design Lead to join our brand function, focussing on building brand awareness and affinity. This is a tremendous moment to join our company and make a real impact. As a visual designer, you will translate our new mission and brand visual identity system into compelling and inspiring stories. You will guide cross-functional teams on campaigns, special projects, and brand experiences across a variety of channels. Through your work you will demonstrate the power of creativity in driving the business forward.
Reporting to the VP of Brand, you will work with Comms, User Acquisition, Developer, Partnership teams and more. No one day will be alike. One day you will be designing social media posts, the next creating house ads or supporting video creation. As a brand ambassador, you will drive a culture that motivates creative and brand excellence at Skillz. You will start as an individual contributor but will be able to bring in agencies and/or freelancers as we scale.

To do so requires you to develop relationships, have a perspective but know when to step back and listen, and when to lean in and act. You love big ideas, but have a nimble mentality. What You Will Do:Â
- Lead creative concepting, visual language and personality of Skillz across
multiple formats and touch points - Support communication and campaign initiatives across internal, player and developer audiences
- Provide design support for executive communications such as board meeting decks, or internal content
- Identify creative opportunities by understanding our audience, the competitive landscape, and industry trendsÂ
- Define our brand standards. Ensure overall quality of creative output and protect the integrity and expression of the Skillz brand.Â
- Roll-up your sleeves and design, execute and deliver on projects.
No job is too big or too small.Â
What We’re Looking For:
- 6+ years experience in a visual design role at an agency or in-house, preferably with tech or gaming/entertainment backgroundÂ
- 2-3 years experience managing external vendors and/or freelancers
- Must have an understanding of systems design and branding strategy and how to leverage them for a multiple of design outputs such as web, events, social, 3D, workplace, video, decks etc.Â
- A conceptual thinker who is able to bring to life new ideas and stories not just follow a template. Flexible and able to adjust to design scenarios, content and context.
- Strong project manager comfortable with ruthlessly prioritizing to deliver measurable KPIs
- A true collaborator. Able to forge strong relationships with cross-functional teams. Enthusiasm for an iterative design process, inspired by feedback
- Experience in motion graphics is a plusÂ
- Passion for the industry and the power of games in empowering communitiesÂ
- An awesome, versatile portfolio is a must
