General Summary
The Visual Development Artist, under the guidance of the Art Director, Production Designer and/or Director, is responsible for generating visual ideas and creating artwork that contributes to the look and design of the film.

Job Functions

  • Conceive, execute and clearly communicate design ideas via digital and/or traditional techniques.
  • Contribute to the development of visual ideas that enhance the story.
  • Collaborate with Art Department, Visual Effects (VFX), Layout Artists and others to develop designs and look of show.
  • Take designs from thumbnail sketch to finished detailed artwork.
  • Incorporate previously developed Art Department assets into artwork.
  • Develop visuals that match the style of a given project.
  • Incorporate textures to inform digital extensions.
  • Participate in regular review sessions with other Artists and the Production Designer.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience designing environments and backgrounds for feature films.
  • Proficient in Photoshop skills, layer management and some compositing.
  • Ability to paint over film stills to help illustrate notes from Production Designer.
  • Excellent rendering skills.
  • Experience with the Wacom Cintiq drawing tablet, required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines as established by Production Management.
  • Ability to multitask and work through several tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to take direction and work both collaboratively and independently.

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works under typical office conditions and is exposed to variable indoor temperatures. The noise level is usually quiet or moderate.
