Summary
The FBI Laboratory seeks a highly qualified geospatial specialist to join its team of experts in crime scene documentation, advanced technology, and digital modeling at Quantico, VA. Career opportunities available for those with expertise in the application of airborne LiDAR and photogrammetry technology to support law enforcement and public safety. FAA Part 61 and/or 107 pilots preferred.

Conditions of Employment
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.
- Travel will be required. Flexibility to travel at short notice (e.g. within 2 hours) for uncertain periods (e.g. up to two weeks) including weekends and holidays.
- This position may potentially be exposed to situations or information that depicts violent acts, lewd images, or involves isolated working conditions.
- As a condition of employment, DNA samples are required from all FBI personnel who interact with evidence or federal DNA database samples in Laboratory Division (LD) space or whose work requires them to enter LD examination areas where evidence or DNA database samples are processed or examined as part of the quality control process to detect sample/evidence contamination, in accordance with the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA), 75 Deferral Register (FR) 68932; 29 C.F.R. 1635.8(b)(6).
- This position will require working as a crew member on a Cessna 206 aircraft.
- Must undergo and complete a U.S. Government HAZMAT physical upon reporting for duty.
Qualifications
GS-9: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
- Familiar with electronic/graphic design publishing principles, practices, and standards in order to create original, informative and unbiased visual map graphics.
- Experience using Esri ArcGIS Desktop (i.e., ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, etc.) to produce map-based graphics.
- Knowledgeable of GIS and remote sensing concepts, terminology, and techniques.
- Basic experience creating, sharing, and managing web services, web maps, and web applications in Esri ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and Portal environments.
- Experience with electronic/graphic design publishing principles, practices, and standards in order to create original, informative and unbiased visual map graphics.
- Experience creating, sharing, and managing web services, web maps, and web applications in Esri ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and Portal environments.
- Understanding of photogrammetry and aerial survey technologies.
- Experience using imagery processing software (i.e., Pix4D, Drone2Map, HxMap).
- Basic knowledge of LiDAR production workflow to include point cloud classification and feature extraction.
- Experience in 3D modeling using aerial imagery and LiDAR.
- Knowledgeable in generating multi-sensor (i.e., terrestrial and airborne LiDAR, survey data, airborne imagery, etc.) data-fusion derived products.
- Experience using ArcGIS Desktop and extensions (i.e., Image Analyst, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, etc.), Autodesk (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit, etc.), and Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) to produce visual aids and products.
- Knowledge in documentation and product assignments involving a combination of data collection, diagram development and digital scene construction.
- Knowledge in equipment and technologies such as drone, LiDAR Scanning and/or photogrammetry.
Desired skills are NOT mandatory and will NOT be utilized to minimally qualify applicants.
Desired Skills are: FAA Part 107 certification preferred.
Education
All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:
GS-9: Applicant must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such as degree in one of the following fields of study: geospatial analysis, geospatial information systems, photogrammetry, cartography, remote sensing, or other GIS related fields.
GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in one of the following fields of study: geospatial analysis, geospatial information systems, photogrammetry, cartography, remote sensing, or other GIS related fields.
Additional information
Incentive: Applicants selected for GS-9 may be eligible for a 15% Recruitment Incentive. You will be required to sign a 1 - year service agreement upon receipt of the Recruitment Incentive. Applicants selected for GS-11 or GS-12 may be eligible for a 20% Recruitment Incentive. You will be required to sign a 2 - year service agreement upon receipt of the Recruitment Incentive.
