What You'll Do
You'll be responsible for developing and planning network designs, specs and plans for voice architectures, as well as testing and implementing them. You'll work cross-functionally to ensure timely deployment and ensure service delivery stays on target. Best of all? You'll do all of this with tech leaders who truly care about you. Here's a look at additional responsibilities:
- Conducting equipment evaluations, selection, pilot testing and network designs to ensure reliability and scaled expansion of the network.
- Maintaining development and QA lab environments.
- Working closely with customers (directly or indirectly through sales engineers) to identify needs impacting network design and support requirements.
- Preparing engineering cost analysis to optimize the return on investment.
- Recommending plans that enhance technical operation, comply with rules and regulations and permit the deployment of new technology.
- Supporting deployments of new voice services, systems, applications and architectures with installation, configuration, integration, evaluation, testing, documentation, and training.
- Performing design functions in MINT for products on HFC and on-network fiber locations.
- Defining and compiling documentation to support personnel in installing, maintaining, and removing network equipment.
- Establishing network performance measurements and goals.
- Providing detailed engineering, Tier IV support and consultation for operations teams, including root cause analysis.
- Facilitating communications with other departments by holding or attending meetings, preparing reports and participating in task forces.
- Applying best practices on voice design authentication, access lists and control plane protection.
- Monitoring communications and utilization trends, then making appropriate design and implementation recommendations to improve services and scale infrastructure.
- Coordinating solutions with vendors and driving them toward reliable, scalable and cost-effective architectures.
- Reporting and tracking specific vendor equipment and operating system issues.
- Proactively identifying ways to improve processes and procedures, then making recommendations to management.
- Sharing technical knowledge and skills with other team members to develop team members' capabilities, and periodically presenting solutions to executive leadership.
Who You Are
You're a savvy tech savant who loves tracking trends in voice technology. You work well with others but can also take initiative and work independently. You've got the knowledge and skills needed to perform engineering activities, including the following qualifications:
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 6 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 4 years' experience; a Ph.D. and 1 year of experience; or 10 years' experience in a related field
- 3 years of experience in voice engineering.
- 3 years of experience developing, authoring and maintaining detailed network designs and documentation (i.e., JG3-engineering work packages, systems or network requirements specifications, systems or network design documents, network whitepapers, network or systems statements of work).
- 3 years of troubleshooting and diagnostics experience.
- 1 year of experience leading projects to enhance the network capabilities for existing and future services.
- Experience with the following:
- Voice switching involving PSTN interconnects, CALEA, and 911.
- Advanced SIP based feature server on the BroadWorks platform.
- Session Boarder Controller (SBC) with special attention on Metaswitch product line (including security and transcoding uses).
- VoIP Gateway, including IAD.
- Voice vendors like AudioCodes, Calix, Cisco, Mavenir, and Metaswitch.
- Tools to monitor and troubleshoot voice networks.
- Cable system standards.
- Voice switching platforms.
- Working knowledge of IP networks.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Excellent collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout the organization.
Preferred:
- BS/BA degree in a related discipline (i.e., engineering, computer science or similar technical degree).
- The following certifications: SSCA, CCNP/CCDP and JNCIS/JNCIP.
- Experience in Agile workflow methodologies.
- Experience in network capacity planning.
- Experience in responding to RFPs.
- Experience in the telecommunications industry.
