This role is a hybrid role working partially in-office and from home.

Ameritas is looking for our nextVice President, Actuarialto join our Corporate Actuarial valuation team.In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team handling experience studies and assumption management for most lines of business as well as, statutory, tax and GAAP valuation for annuity and disability income business.

What you do

Provide leadership in delivering:

  • Annuity and disability income valuation:

    • Timely and accurate financial information.
    • Quarterly statutory, tax and GAAP reserves and GAAP DPAC balances; and analysis of those results.
    • Required regulatory actuarial information needed for year-end filings, tax reporting, surveys, state exams, IRS exams and other similar requests.

  • Assumptions related to life, annuity, and disability income business:

    • Experience studies and analysis of results
    • Assumption proposals
    • Assumption repository
    • VM-50 experience reporting
    • X-factor analysis


Responsible for the following with regard to defined areas:

  • Collaboration with other Corporate Actuarial areas, internal product and risk-analysis actuaries, accountants, auditors, management, and other associates, as well as external rating agencies, auditors, and regulators.
  • Review, understand and implement new and existing valuation requirements.
  • Implement appropriate controls and documentation.


Take initiative to:

  • Improve on existing valuation processes and controls. Conform valuation practices, procedures, and philosophies, where appropriate
  • Successfully complete special projects as directed by senior leaders.


What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of actuarial experience required.
  • Fixed indexed annuities experience strongly desired.
  • Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation.
  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
  • 4-7+ years of strong leadership or people management experience with a proven track record of developing and upskilling teams
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance products and concepts, actuarial theory and techniques, and regulation of the insurance industry.
