Job Description Summary
This role leads the Excess and Surplus and Specialty and Nationwide Agribusiness Lines Finance teams in providing financial management to the businesses including timely, accurate, and actionable financial data, business and industry insights, pricing & underwriting oversight, and financial reporting, forecasting and planning. The position is required to consult with product and other organizational leaders on the development and execution of strategies that effectively position the business in extremely competitive industries. This role is a member of the ESS, NWAG and P&C Finance Leadership teams.
Job Description
Reporting Relationships: Reports to SVP, CFO Property and Casualty Finance; Team Composition: 5 direct reports and 55+ indirect reports.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Influence: Serve as a key influencer and participant in the development and execution of strategies that are designed to balance long-term growth, profitability, competitiveness, and risk management supporting ESS and NWAG Lines. Develop analytics, recommendations, and portfolio solutions in support of pricing, product management, operational capabilities, risk and capital management and return goals.
- Strategic and Operational Planning: Leadership of the businesses planning and forecasting processes. For the strategic plan, provide thought leadership, financial forecasting support, and reporting for the key initiatives. Develop the annual operating plan and drive prioritization and funding of strategic and tactical initiatives based on the alignment with business plans and strategies.
- Analysis and Support: Provides oversight and leadership to financial analytics and insights including financial modeling & analysis, M&A support, new business analysis, product profitability and pricing, regulatory compliance and Board reporting, and other ad hoc requests, to ensure appropriate support of the management decision process.
- Ensure that growth and targeted returns and pricing targets are appropriately established and that plans are in place to achieve targeted returns and growth goals
- Pricing, Risk, and Capital Management: Assess and quantify business risks, and develop and implement risk management strategies in support of business tactics and goals. Monitor financial business performance against forecasts and assumptions; develop and assess business opportunities to support business decisions about resource allocation and prioritization around product development and innovation efforts; analyze distribution channel and firm profitability. Actively participate in and influence the product and pricing development processes and support operational teams in the business decision process. Ensure pricing targets are appropriately established and monitored and that clear plans are in place to remediate pricing issues.
- Analytics: Partner with Advanced Analytics and Product leaders to ensure appropriate approach and progress is being made in advanced analytics, and that business is maximizing benefits from analytics efforts.
- People Leadership: Develop and cultivate an engaging environment for P&C Finance associates that supports both personal and professional development and growth. Work across finance on talent training and development.
Financial Responsibility & Scope Revenues $5 billion DWP Leadership Accountability
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education/Certification/Licenses: Undergraduate or post graduate degree
Finance/Accounting strongly preferred Certification: CPA or MBA
Experience/Skills- Deep knowledge of property and casualty business operations and financial systems. Preferred knowledge of E&SS industry and products. Knowledge of insurance accounting and financial reporting (GAAP and Statutory). Broad-based financial and technical insurance skills, strong oral and written communication skills.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.
