Reporting to the CFO, the VP Controller is responsible for directing the accounting function and providing financial support to business partners.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all general accounting and bookkeeping operations, such as:
- Accounting close and consolidation
- Revenue recognition
- Equity accounting
- AP, AR, Expense reimbursement
- Prepare, analyze, and circulate periodic management and financial reports
- Provide reliable and accurate financial information and analysis to members of management and to the Audit Committee and Board of Directors of the company
- Partner effectively with cross-functional stakeholders to drive process enhancements, while also participating in regular operational reviews to maintain relationships across the company and build awareness of key business trends and performance opportunities within the accounting organization
- Proactively lead the day-to-day relationship with key external parties on behalf of the Company including the external auditors and other advisors and consultants.
- Optimize the accounting processes to drive effective, efficient and timely monthly closes
- Work with tax professionals to ensure timely preparation of tax returns, and ensure that proper processes are in place for local, state, federal, and foreign tax filings
- Lead company-wide financial and statutory audits
- Assist CFO in preparing for and executing an Initial Public Offering
- Together with the head of Strategic Finance, lead the annual budget process and report on variances throughout the year, such as ongoing actual vs. budget, forecast, and prior year analyses
- Manage and develop a high-performing team with a continuous improvement mindset and shared commitment to overall business success. Responsible for recruiting, performance and action plans.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- 20+ years of progressive senior accounting experience, preferably including public company accounting leadership experience
- Proven experience optimizing accounting processes to drive effective, efficient, and timely monthly closes
- CPA required, Big 4 experience preferred
- Industry experience from pre-IPO through IPO preferred
- Demonstrated entrepreneurial acumen and enjoyment in a challenging fast paced environment, dealing with complex issues on a daily basis
- International experience a plus
- Highly motivated, responsible and self-directed individual who knows what needs to be done and operates with a sense of urgency, focus and discipline
- 10+ years experience as a strong people leader who can energize and empower both direct reports and the entire accounting organization, creating a high performance culture while developing internal talent
- Capable of building respect and confidence within finance organization and cross-functionally throughout the company
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Impeccable ethical standards and integrity
- Experience with physical inventory accounting a plus
- Experience with Netsuite, Salesforce, Coupa and Tableau a plus
