VP & Deputy General Counsel, Global Commercial Legal

Dataiku is seeking a talented, highly motivated team player to serve as Vice President, Global Commercial Legal, supporting the continued growth of Dataiku globally. This role reports to the Chief Legal Officer and is a great opportunity to serve as the global legal executive defining and implementing commercial strategy for the company, and to lead, develop and invest in the growth and development of team members around the globe who support commercial work in an exciting, fast-paced environment. This can be a remote position and eligible to work anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and support to Dataiku’s commercial operations, including sales, marketing, procurement, and business development
- Maintain ongoing knowledge of current market best practices and standards for complex commercial contracting with proficiency in SaaS, cloud, software, IP licensing, professional services, strategic alliances, data privacy, marketing, and procurement/strategic sourcing
- Develop and leverage deep understanding of Dataiku’s product(s) and global business to deliver efficient, scalable approaches to commercial matters
- Lead, develop and grow an already high-performing team around the world who provide best-in-class support for client groups that include sales, marketing, procurement/sourcing, and other teams
- Assess current and future outside counsel relationships on an ongoing basis to ensure access to high quality, cost effective subject matter expertise and overflow supportÂ
- Establish and maintain strong inside and outside relationships that help ensure positive outcomes for the Commercial Legal function and the internal clients they support
- Maintain a leadership profile with an ongoing commitment to coach and mentor team members in Legal and throughout the company
- Develop and deliver training content and playbooks that enable effective onboarding, education and practices for Legal and its clientsÂ
- Establish and deploy policies that clarify processes and enable efficient use of resources
- Take special high priority projects from time to time as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer that contribute to the needs, profile and success of the broader Legal & Compliance team
- Play an active role in organizational planning, budgeting, and tracking
- Advise on compliance with laws and regulations related to the company’s products and services
- Identify and manage legal risks associated with the company’s commercial operations around the global
- Collaborate with leaders around the company to ensure consistent, efficient and effective legal support
- Serve as both a coach and player on the Global Commercial Legal team
- Willingness to travel to New York City, Paris and other locations, as needed.
- Willingness to adapt schedule to U.S. Eastern time zone, as needed.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Law degree from U.S. accredited law school and active, good standing membership in at least one U.S. State bar (and willingness to maintain).
- 15+ years of relevant legal experience, with in-house experience strongly preferred.
- Broad, expert-level experience in global commercial practices and operations
- Background that includes both commercial and public sector contracting processes and requirements, including United States federal sales.
- History of effective leadership and people management that demonstrates a track record of commitment to growth, development, feedback, and support.
- Strong executive presence and effective, concise communicator.
- Proficient drafting and legal technical skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Exceptional critical thinker with strong business acumen and judgment; must be able to work independently, manage multiple priorities and pivot between responsibilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with high initiative, flexibility, and ability to collaborate cross functionally.
- Effective communicator, able to convey complex ideas in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in writing.
- Active collaborator with a strong solutions focus in business and technical discussions.
- Self-starter who thrives and can multitask in fast-paced and often ambiguous situations.
- Pragmatic, flexible, and business-focus are necessary.
The final compensation package for this role will be determined during the interview process and is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, geographic location, internal equity, education, skill set, experience and training. Eligible roles may also be entitled to receive commission or other variable compensation through Dataiku's incentive compensation program.Â
