What You’ll Be Doing
Having grown substantially in the last two years with no sign of slowing down, we are looking for an experienced VP, Engineering with proven ability, who is able to navigate the business on its exciting journey and successfully manage growth, as well as the challenges this presents. Our ideal candidate will know how to take BeatStars from “good” to “great” and be just as comfortable in a player-coach role leading from the 50,000 feet above as they are getting into the weeds. As a VP, Engineering for BeatStars, you will be responsible for the technical and operational strategy of the Engineering team and driving sustainable growth. Reporting to the CEO, you will be a part of the executive team and have the ability to understand and make executive decisions on how we operate across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop technical aspects of the company’s strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals
- Have an understanding of the B2C SaaS/marketplace environment, including global payment solutions and the complexities to manage to have a safe and secure infrastructure internally and externally
- Discover and implement new technologies that yield competitive advantage
- Help departments use technology profitably
- Build quality assurance and data protection processes
- Monitor KPIs and IT budgets to assess technological performance
- Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology
- Creating timelines for the development and deployment of all technological services
- Ensuring all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards
- Develop holistic strategy to keep our environment safe and secure both internally and externally
- Collaboratively work with Product Management to define the product roadmap and establish an implementation plan.
- Translating strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth helps to implement team goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning.
- Leading and managing the tech management team – recruiting, objective setting, coaching, motivating, and performance monitoring. Creating and cultivating a customer-centric culture within the team and organization.
- Reporting & Metrics Management - evaluating performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics.
- Analyzing internal operations and identifying areas for Continuous Improvement.
- Partnering with the Head of People on domestic and international expansion to budget for enough investment capital to achieve growth targets.
What You’ll Need
- Proven experience as VP, Engineering or similar role; 5+ years experience in a senior role in an early stage SaaS/startup environment.
- Sound understanding of building best-in-class technology function; including IT and InfoSec/Compliance
- A strong product sense and can build engaging tech for customers
- Ability to conduct technological analyses and research
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to share/collaborate with peers
- Significant experience in software architecture and personally building digital products from early-stage through to scaling and maturity, including platform & mobile app experience
- You’ve managed, mentored, and inspired a small team of engineers providing architectural guidance, code reviews, etc.
- Deep knowledge of full-stack modern development practices (ex: DevOps, APIs)
- Good knowledge of data analysis and KPIs
- Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development.
- Sound judgment and aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity.
- Highly evolved Emotional Intelligence and vested in continuous leadership development.
- Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues.
- A solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels.
- Excellent mentoring, coaching, leadership, and people management skills.
- Strategic thinking - the ability to understand the business implications of decisions; display an orientation towards growth and demonstrate knowledge of the market and competition.
