Job Description

As VP, Finance you will be reporting directly to the EVP/CFO as the senior ranking executive who will bring an inclusive leadership approach and style to driving financial accountability across various business areas within Sony Music’s Commercial Music Group.  Day to day you will be responsible for leading most aspects of financial planning & analysis, financial reporting and related functions as well as supporting strategic business initiatives.  You will be uniquely positioned to help drive key business decisions, contribute to infrastructure improvements and influence all aspects of financial accountability, including collaboration with operational, shared services and corporate teams. 

What you'll do:
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships and work in close partnership day to day with division leadership and related functional teams to effectively support and encourage innovation and evolution of the business; provide thought leadership and guidance in support of strategic business initiatives.
  • Deal analysis and transaction support related to catalog acquisitions, artist negotiations, joint ventures and other strategic investment proposals including preparation of financial valuation models, due diligence support, crafting investment presentations and approval memos, accounting evaluation, post-acquisition integration, etc. 
  • Manage and lead finance team including ongoing evaluation of roles and responsibilities to ensure continual alignment with and optimal support of business goals and objectives; provide ongoing coaching and development of staff and accountability for all day to day functions including, but not limited to annual business planning and monthly forecasting, month-end financial closing and related functions (including balance sheet), budgeting, profitability analysis and performance evaluation for ongoing business initiatives and projects, revenue & pricing analysis, discretionary cost planning & administration (marketing, talent, overhead), audit deliverables and other Corporate reporting requirements.
  • Reestablish and reinforce key performance indicators and data driven analysis of business performance, including project and product level performance as well as standard monthly P&L and balance sheet reporting & analysis; provide thought leadership in development and ongoing evolution of next generation reports, dashboards, analyses, processes and methodologies for assessing performance.
  • Lead and/or actively participate in various financial/business review and operational meetings and presentations providing thought leadership; prepare and/or coordinate preparation of related analysis and meeting materials where required (including ad hoc reporting & analysis as required at the business unit, label and Corporate levels).
Who you are:
  • 10+ years of experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role(s); entertainment/media and/or technology industries preferred.
  • Finance degree with proficiency in accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities including ability to effectively lead, manage and develop a team of professionals.
  • Tech savvy with exceptional research and data analysis capabilities; demonstrated ability with financial modeling and valuations, evaluation of KPI’s and metrics and synthesizing detailed financial data; well organized, detail oriented, self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset; ability to transition between high-level strategist and tactical thinker as required.
  • Collaborator with ability to adapt to different personality styles and situations, as well as ability to adapt to change; also exceptional communication skills, including ability to interact and effectively present analysis, findings and recommendations curated to a variety of audiences including senior and executive management and ability to persuade and influence business decisions.

The anticipated annual base salary does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for.  The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
