The Global Risk & Compliance Organization ("GRC") is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound and fully compliant manner within all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

Job Description:

The Vice President - Funding and Liquidity Risk Oversight will be a responsible for providing strategic leadership and independent oversight of funding and liquidity risk management across American Express and American Express National Bank (AENB). Reporting directly to the Market Risk Oversight Officer, the VP will work closely with senior management, risk committees, and business units to ensure effective identification, assessment, and mitigation of funding and liquidity risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement funding and liquidity risk management strategies, policies, and procedures in alignment with the organization's risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight to ensure policies and procedures are effective in managing the Company's liquidity resources.
  • Lead a team that oversees critical processes including Cash Flow Forecasting, Collateral Management, Intraday Exposures, and Contingency Funding Plans.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of risk methodologies and stress testing frameworks for assessing liquidity risk exposures across various products, portfolios, and business lines.
  • Own key funding and liquidity risk management processes such as Liquidity Risk Identification, Risk Appetite, and Limits.
  • Collaborate with treasury functions and other relevant stakeholders to assess and manage liquidity risk, including funding liquidity, market liquidity, and intraday liquidity, ensuring adequate liquidity buffers and contingency funding plans.
  • Define metrics and calibrate limits to ensure that all material liquidity risks are mitigated and maintained within risk tolerance.
  • Monitor liquidity and funding risk trends, market developments, and regulatory changes to proactively identify emerging risks and opportunities for risk mitigation and optimization.
  • Participate in various risk committees and other relevant risk governance forums, providing comprehensive risk oversight and escalating significant issues to senior management and the board of directors as appropriate.
  • Foster a strong risk culture and awareness of liquidity risk throughout the organization through training, communication, and knowledge sharing initiatives.
  • Engage with regulators, auditors, and other external stakeholders on liquidity and funding risk-related matters, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and addressing any inquiries or examinations.
  • Provide leadership to a team of risk professionals located in the US and International locations.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Econometrics, Business Administration, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • 9+ years of experience in risk management or finance; 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of funding and liquidity risk management processes, analytics, frameworks, systems, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Rigorous analytical and problem-solving skills, including a proven ability to translate complex and disparate information into comprehensive and cohesive messaging for senior leadership, committees, audit, and regulators.
  • Experience in driving transformational change - setting strategic objectives and collaborating across a matrixed organization to influence business partners and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively hire, coach, train, and develop a team and to promote collaboration across geographies.
  • Proactive in identifying issues, escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to mitigate risks in a timely fashion.
  • CFA or FRM designation preferred.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
