The Role

Job Summary & Responsibilities:

The VP of Growth & Lifecycle Marketing will report to the Head of Marketing, MotorTrend Group, and oversee acquisition, engagement, and retention efforts across paid and owned channels. The role requires a specialized marketing skill set that is a blend of technical, operational, and creative talents. It is at the intersection of marketing, product, technology, research and analytics with a strong emphasis on experimentation and impact. This leader will bring a sophisticated data-driven approach, uncovering insights and trends to build strategies that both grow and retain audiences for MotorTrend. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of creating and implementing successful marketing programs grounded in data and research that drive growth and engagement while mitigating churn.  


The VP of Growth & Lifecycle Marketing will mentor and motivate a team of digital marketing professionals to address challenges and bring to life innovative growth and retention initiatives. The role will require exceptional communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve defined goals. This leader will excel at relationship building and collaboration, while growing the business. 


Essential duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Design and lead implementation of growth strategy by using paid and owned media channels to grow new user acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention that is scalable and efficient 
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering teams to build campaigns and solutions that drive business growth
  • Lead rapid experimentation of new channels, campaigns, creative, incentives, and approaches for the purpose of building scalable solutions
  • Lead media efforts across both brand and performance campaigns and identify efficiencies between the two
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders across the organization including product, engineering, business intelligence, sales, BD, and core marketing team
  • Oversee ongoing reporting and analysis of campaigns followed by implementation of recommended optimizations
  • Stay up to date on the latest industry trends and insights and share best practices among marketing team and broader organization

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Media, or Communications 
  • College degree required, MBA preferred 
  • Minimum 15+ years of digital marketing, mobile marketing, or streaming platform marketing
  • Experience managing and mentoring a team
  • Experience with mobile app marketing, FAST channel marketing, and web/mobile marketing
  • Experience with email and lifecycle marketing including newsletters and push strategy
  • Experience marketing subscription and membership services including a strong understanding of KPIs and business metrics
  • Experience working with established brands, ideally automotive or media
  • Significant experience, proficiency in, and passion for digital media and mobile technologies

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Must be able to effectively manage several feature launches simultaneously  
  • Personality suited to handle responsibility, leadership and deadlines under pressure
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to implement strategic marketing as well as daily marketing execution and optimization
  • Passionate about media industry and future of automotive
  • Ability to effectively communicate and “sell” strategies to cross-functional teams
  • Highly Detailed and Organized 
  • Excellent communications (oral and written) skills 
  • Strong problem-solving/troubleshooting skills 
  • Strong technical aptitude - ability to adapt and pick up new tools quickly is a must
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and Keynote, with strong presentation skills and an ability to clearly articulate Strategy, Objectives, and Tactics along with rationale
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Exceptional time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects with changing priorities

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to sit for prolonged periods of time and view a computer screen.
  • Position is located in El Segundo, CA office (hybrid, with 2x weekly office attendance mandatory)
  • Infrequent travel may be required

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles that will be performed in California. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of MotorTrend's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $168,000.00 - $250,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, MotorTrend provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
