Vice President, Head of Core Technology Infrastructure Products

The Hartford is in search of a technology infrastructure leader, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, owning and driving core IT infrastructure products, including data center, mainframe, compute, storage, middleware, database, web hosting and containers. Responsible for maintaining and maximizing the operational availability, security, quality, currency, resiliency, recovery and efficiency of core IT Infrastructure products.

Successful candidates will have experience in driving transformation initiatives and sustaining top quartile operating standards by leveraging leading market practices. Automating core infrastructure services through software/systems engineering expertise in the infrastructure organization. It also includes cultivating and innovating new ideas and capabilities with strategic partners and market leaders. Proven delivery in Agile-based, cloud-centric operating models in/across large enterprises. In addition to the operating model experience, preferred candidates will possess advanced hyper-cloud provider engineering and governance skills.

Leading the core product teams through change including talent management, collaboration with peers, influencing transformation and providing leadership in the CTO management team. He or She must have the ability to effectively communicate, influence across the technology organization, actively participate in strategic planning and decision making and the execution of complex technology initiatives and projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for a budget over $125M an organization of 300+ employees and vendor partners and multiple large sized managed service contracts.
  • The Hartford's Core Infrastructure products including IaaS providing a level of advancement in technology to further the businesses' leading position in the market with a full technology stack across traditional and modern architectures.
  • Service Management of Core products to support enterprise needs, delivering on end user requirements, maintaining enterprise stability, and continuously evolving and modernizing available services to improve workforce productivity and optimize operational cost.
  • Core product management - Storage, Compute, Network, Mainframe, Database, DC. Managing initiatives for core infrastructure including transformation, migration, decoms, including security and hygiene projects.
  • Database-as-a-Service. Enabling transformation of DBaaS which is underway as part of the overall Cloud transformation at The Hartford.
  • Middleware Platforms including Web and Container hosting including supporting business partners through enterprise middleware integration, managed file transfer and document management, with a focus on maintaining system stability and availability, while optimizing services through continued automation and process advancement.
  • People Leader and Strategic Partner - Develop and maintain a sustainable organization through the hiring, performance management, coaching and development of a multi-discipline organization, including managing strategic business and vendor partner relationships to create value for the organization.
  • Lead transformational change management initiatives including championing the adoption of an inner- and open-sourcing delivery culture to expand sourcing options and prescribe to a continuous learning and improvement mindset for the organization.

Qualifications:
  • 10 + years IT professional experience in financial services or insurance in a large corporation with multiple lines of business
  • 10+ years of having assumed executive leadership, engineering and operations roles with a demonstrated track record of technical innovation and experience leading technically diverse teams.
  • Strong engineering mindset with hybrid cloud experience across public cloud providers and the technologies most frequently used
  • Demonstrated ability to own, transform, mature and deliver enterprise technology infrastructure products
  • Strong knowledge and experience with product management and Agile engineering principles
  • Broad knowledge across traditional/legacy and modern Infrastructure technologies and architecture
  • Experience in IT infrastructure management in a complex environment across various architectures and technologies and migration of traditional platforms in a hybrid cloud environment
  • Proven experience in IT strategic planning and capability development with success implementing technology strategy and roadmaps for a diverse enterprise portfolio
  • Proven execution/delivery running and maintaining cloud-based and on prem infrastructure services across various service delivery models, as well as compute, storage, network, mainframe and databases
  • Track record of building strategic partnerships with leading service providers and evolving sourcing models/contracts, including managed service contracts as well as co-development of innovative solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a strategic thought leader and be seen as a credible business partner by peers
  • Highly collaborative leader, comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced organization
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Able to influence diverse teams and build strong business relationships
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field
  • Master of Science in Computer Science or related field preferred

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$210,720 - $316,080
