The VP of Accounting & Finance will report to the CFO and will be responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting and finance operations of the business. This person will ensure effective internal controls, accurate financial reporting and timely delivery of reporting to executive leadership and other stakeholders.
What you’ll do:
- Accounting Operations: Oversee execution of daily accounting functions including journal entries, maintaining appropriate chart of accounts, AP management, payroll, expense management, account reconciliations; oversight, optimization and maintenance of the month-end close process.
- Financial Statements: Analyze the accuracy and completeness of financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement. Verify that they are prepared in accordance with GAAP and delivered in a timely manner each month.
- Internal Reporting and FP&A: Support the development and production of month end and ad hoc reporting packages for executive leadership including financial statements and KPI dashboard. Collaborate with finance team & management to develop a comprehensive annual operating budget and periodic re-forecasts that incorporate key performance metrics to help drive and optimize organizational and financial performance.
- Accounting Policies: Assess the company's accounting policies to ensure they are consistent with accounting principles and appropriate for the industry. Perform technical accounting research on topics such as leases, revenue recognition, capitalized software, M&A and investments as needed to inform accounting policies.
- Internal Controls: Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls in place to safeguard company assets, prevent fraud, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Revenue Recognition & Player Account Management: Examine the revenue recognition policies and practices to ensure compliance with accounting standards. Insure that player account balances are accurate and reconciled.
- Financial Systems and Software: Evaluate the accounting software and financial systems used by the business. Assess their functionality, integration capabilities, data security, and scalability to support the company's future needs.
- Audit and External Reporting: Review the company's audit process, engagement with external auditors, and compliance with regulatory reporting requirements. Oversee audit process as well as tax activities including annual filings, quarterly tax related distributions, state by state requirements and player tax form distribution.
- Staffing and Competencies: Assess the qualifications, skills, and training of the accounting and finance team. Identify any gaps in staffing or competencies that may impact the effectiveness of financial operations.
What you have:
- Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to exercise mature judgment and present and execute solutions.
- Track record of improving systems and processes to increase organizational efficiency.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Experience leading a financial statement audit
- Team player that can also work independently
- Executive presence including excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Desire to be in a high growth situation that can be less structured at times
- 15+ years of related experience with time in the top accounting role and a proven track record leading comparable operations
- 10+ years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high performing teams
- Bachelor’s in Finance or Accounting
- CPA
