Job Description

Discovery Education (DE) is seeking a Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to lead our efforts to further grow our diverse, multicultural, equitable and inclusive culture internally and externally.

As the Vice President of DEI, you will provide strategic and tactical leadership on all DEI strategies, policies, programs, and practices while partnering with key stakeholders and across the organization.

This highly visible role will cultivate, promote and champion an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace centered on our organization's mission, vision and values. As a part of the DE senior leadership team, the ideal candidate will demonstrate executive presence and ability to engender trust and successfully partner across the organization. This role will report to our Chief People Office (CPO) and work closely with executive management and stakeholders across the organization.

Our ideal candidate will be located in the Charlotte, NC area, which is home to our corporate headquarters. We work in a hybrid environment to support flexibility and community across the organization.

What You Will Do

  • Work closely with all levels of management and staff to formulate, recommend, and implement DEI Strategic Plan, to include organizational pillars and enabling practices.
    • Determine and recommend specific practices necessary to establish and maintain a positive and inclusive environment and promote a high level of employee trust and confidentiality.
  • Lead the Discovery Education's DEI Council strategies, programs, and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to the Business Resource Group sponsors and members, ensuring group initiatives align with organization's mission and values and promotes inclusivity, equity and contributes to organizational success and connection to community.
  • Identify and implement best practices and present recommendations to support DE in the equitable recruitment, selection, training, retention, and promotion of its present and future workforce.
  • Develop, capture, and report on metrics required by applicable federal, state and local laws, as well as applicable policy or other employment directives, such as alignment to ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategies.
  • Measure, track and analyze the effectiveness of DEI initiatives, report on progress, and identify future areas of focus.
  • Drive leadership awareness, commitment and accountability for DEI initiatives
  • Consult with HR business partners as needed on matters related to employee relations in further support of educational opportunities, building awareness and continually improving practices for an equitable and inclusive workplace.
  • Serve as our DEI subject matter expert, internal "consultant" and internal and external thought leader.
  • Build and deliver all DEI training which will include manager, interview and inclusion training and scale those out as our DEI strategy evolves.
  • Consistently analyze department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with objectives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience creating, implementing and leading corporate wide DEI and People strategies.
  • Experience translating DEI missions and visions to strategy and delivering against DEI and business goals successfully.
  • Proven history of partnering with senior and executive leadership as well as Marketing, Corporate Communications, Employee Resource Group (ERG) and Talent Acquisition teams.
  • Data driven nature and the ability to use internal and external data and analytics to benchmark, measure success, create insights and drive decisions.
  • Previous experience championing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion company wide.
  • Ability to leverage internal and external data, insight, best practices and industry trends.
  • Exceptional ability to build and grow relationships internally and externally.
  • Legal right to work in the United States.
