What we are looking for:

Striking Distance Studios is seeking an experienced VP of Engineering to provide technical direction and leadership for the engineering team. 

Responsibilities:

• Identify technical risks on projects and develop contingency plans to put into place with the team
• Interface with design and art directors to identify trends in the gaming industry and adapt to quickly implement features which are key to improving and enhancing the game
• Evaluate both internal and external technology solutions to make informed recommendations for adoption, revision, and maintenance of required tech
• Maintain and improve overall code quality, ensuring that code is cross-platform, reusable, and testable
• Collaborate to ensure that technology interests and policies are represented and maintained through the course of development, and that future technology is being developed on schedule.
• Work with the production team to revise and validate engineering estimates and production plans
• Keep current with technology advances and propose new innovations that may benefit the project
• Provide strategic leadership and vision to the engineering team, overseeing all aspects of engineering operations
• Guide and grow engineering team-leads into successful people managers.
• Provide mentorship, troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving assistance to members of the engineering team
• Foster a culture of open, honest, and respectful communication across all disciplines

Qualifications:

• At least 10 years of leadership experience in the games industry and preferably 2 years or more in a similar role.
• Experience working with UE4 or UE5 and a full understanding of its architecture.
• Previous experience shipping AAA titles in a management position 
• Strong leadership skills with emphasis on building great teams and future leaders
• Exceptional management and communication skills.
• Experience with performance analysis and code optimization
• Experience developing AAA titles on multiple console platforms.
• Experience shipping games on current generation consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X) and PC
• Expertise with the C / C++ programming language
• A Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or relevant work experience

In California, the expected salary range for this position is $250,000-$320,000. The listed expected salary range represents a good faith estimate and the actual pay may depend on a variety of job-related factors that can include experience, education, skills, and location.
