Job Description

Team: IT

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP of Engineering, Elections based in the United States.

This is a senior executive engineering leadership role at the intersection of technology, civic engagement, and large-scale consumer product development. You will shape the technical vision and execution strategy for a high-impact platform designed to improve voter understanding, trust, and participation in democratic processes. The role blends hands-on architectural leadership with organizational scaling, requiring strong ability to guide engineering teams through rapid growth, complex data challenges, and high-traffic event-driven environments such as elections. You will partner closely with product and cross-functional leaders to define strategy, align execution, and drive measurable improvements in user engagement and platform reliability. A key focus is building robust, AI-enabled systems and data foundations that support trustworthy civic information at scale. This position sits within a mission-driven environment where engineering leadership directly contributes to strengthening democratic participation.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will define and lead the technical vision, engineering strategy, and execution model for a high-scale civic technology product. You will oversee engineering organization maturity, data systems architecture, and cross-functional alignment while ensuring the platform can reliably scale during peak election-driven demand.

  • Define and drive the overall engineering vision, architecture, and roadmap for large-scale election and civic engagement products.
  • Lead development of high-scale systems capable of handling bursty, event-driven traffic patterns during elections.
  • Oversee the design and evolution of a trusted, AI-enabled data foundation integrating external authorities, extraction pipelines, and human-in-the-loop validation.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Marketing leadership to align on growth strategy, product execution, and user engagement outcomes.
  • Build and scale engineering organizations, including managing managers and developing senior technical leaders.
  • Establish engineering best practices around reliability, scalability, observability, and AI-driven development workflows.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across engineering, product, and data teams to ensure cohesive execution of company-wide initiatives.
  • Guide technical decision-making at the executive level, balancing innovation, trust, and system integrity.
  • Champion AI adoption in engineering workflows, product capabilities, and data systems to accelerate delivery and insight generation.
  • Requirements

This role requires a seasoned engineering executive with deep experience scaling consumer-facing platforms, leading distributed teams, and building high-trust systems at scale. You should bring strong technical depth combined with strategic leadership and a track record of delivering complex, mission-critical products.

    • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including hands-on architecture and system design.
    • 7+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing managers and leading multi-team organizations.
    • Proven experience scaling consumer products across large, diverse, or international user bases.
    • Strong background in high-scale system architecture, including handling traffic spikes and distributed system reliability.
    • Experience building or leading data platforms, ideally involving complex data integration and governance challenges.
    • Demonstrated ability to partner at the executive level across Product, Engineering, and Business functions.
    • Strong understanding of AI-enabled systems and experience incorporating AI into product or engineering workflows.
    • Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with high public or mission-critical impact.
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Experience in civic tech, public sector systems, or mission-driven consumer platforms is a strong plus.
    • Benefits

      • Competitive executive compensation package (base salary + performance-based incentives)
      • Equity participation in a high-growth mission-driven organization
      • Remote-first working model (#LI-Remote) with flexible work arrangements
      • Opportunity to lead engineering for a nationally scaled civic and election platform
      • Mission-driven environment focused on strengthening democratic participation
      • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage (varies by location)
      • Generous time off and parental leave policies
      • Opportunity to shape AI-driven systems applied to civic engagement at national scale
      • Inclusive and diverse workplace culture committed to equal opportunity and accessibility.
