Job Description
GridX is seeking an experienced and dedicated VP of Finance who will be responsible for developing and directing the company's analytical, financial plans and policies. The VP of Finance will help develop and manage metrics to optimize our growth by understanding where efficiencies exist to maximize scalability throughout the year. This position will be responsible for key aspects of financial management and accounting including asset and liability management, budgeting, forecasting, liquidity, investments, compliance and capital planning. Additionally, this position will play a key role in planning and executing any M&A transactions and integration.
Ultimately, you will work directly with the CEO to create our annual plans, help ensure our operations remain on track to hit our plans, and to make strategic decisions to help ensure the successful long-term growth of the company.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Finance & Accounting leader who is responsible for maintaining financial and compliance processes and systems across the organization as GridX scales. We're seeking a candidate who has a passion for numbers and how they transform the strategy, accountability, and operations of the company as a whole; someone who wants to roll up their sleeves and understand the numbers, business strategy, and internal operations. This role will actively partner with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders across GridX in addition to leading the finance & accounting organization.
VP of Finance responsibilities include overseeing accounting operations, gathering and analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports for internal stakeholders, as well as for the Board of Directors and Investor presentations. The VP of Finance will also be a key stakeholder of compliance, including but not limited to SOC and payroll compliance and will play a critical role supporting M&A.

This position will be best suited for an experienced VP who is passionate about building a high-performing team in a fast pace and high-growth environment. We are looking for a data-driven individual who can help GridX improve decision-making while using data and available technology to automate, streamline, and improve processes. The selected candidate will have extensive experience within SaaS businesses and be an expert at telling the company story through standard SaaS metrics with proven experience having led and/or participated in M&A transactions.
Responsibilities:
Strategy
- Partner with the CEO on operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the CEO based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
- Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the executive management team.
- Provide financial and strategic thought leadership supported by rigorous analysis, with a focus on business planning, corporate strategy, and capital allocation.
- Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with GridX's strategic plan.
- Align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections.
- Develop reporting systems for senior leadership and other departments to accurately track financials, KPIs, and variance reporting.
- Develop and own the financial reporting package for the Board that effectively communicates the state of the business.
- Engage the Board of Directors around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery.
- Work closely with the CEO and Board on M&A including assessing deal fit, identifying potential synergies, assessing value, transformation and value-creation opportunities, due diligence and risks.
Financial and Operational Management
- Direct corporate financial processes (financial model, financial planning, forecasting, and cash vs. burn tracking).
- Oversee budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, so as to monitor progress and present operational metrics both internally and externally.
- Ensure that finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with GaaP, and monitor the use of all funds.
- Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding organizations and GridX's Board of Directors as well as potential Investors; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.
- Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
- Oversee and administer company stock option plan.
- Partner with Human Resources to evaluate and oversee all benefits negotiations, thus providing the most competitive packages for GridX's employees.
- Review all formal finance and IT-related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.
- Coordinate audit activities with the external financial auditors, GridX's grantors/funders as well as worker's compensation and other federal, state and local audits.
- Work with corporate legal to ensure compliance and codify all Board and committee decisions.
Team Management and Supervisory Responsibility
- Develop and manage direct staff, to include team members in finance and accounting; guide larger multi-disciplinary teams outside of direct span of control.
- Engage other members of the senior management team to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures that all financial and IT solutions positively support GridX's evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data needs.
- This position is responsible for the direct supervision of GridX's finance and accounting staff.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven work experience as a VP of Finance or similar role
- A minimum of a BS and CPA/CMA; an MBA would be a plus, 10 years of broad finance experience in SaaS companies
- In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws, and best practices for SaaS businesses
- Possesses critical knowledge of financial benchmarking, accounting, audit and tax compliance and other regulatory matters
- Adept in fiscal management principles and processes, including resource management and needs assessment
- Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting.
- Proven ability to manage a team with competing priorities & providing level-headed guidance during unexpected events
- Skill in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial and technology policies and procedures.
- Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to the CEO. The ideal candidate will ideally have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting), and IT for a fast paced start-up.
- Experience interfacing with Board of Directors and in effectively communicating the state of the business through numbers and metrics that are consistent with modern SaaS businesses
- Experience in leading and/or participating in M&A transactions and resulting integrations
Your Location
Because the CEO is based in Denver, CO, it is preferred that the selected candidate be located in the Denver area but it is not required. The role will include occasional work at a GridX We-work office or attendance at offsites and/or customer sites, as determined by your role's responsibilities and agreed to with your manager.
