THE ROLE
As a leader at Mack Weldon, the VP of People Operations will work with Mack Weldon’s CEO and executive team to develop the overall team and people-related programs in four distinct areas: Human Resources, L&D, Talent Acquisition, and Office & Culture. This involves instilling metrics into the organization and putting systems in place to make sure Mack Weldon is set up for scale. The VP of People Operations will need to assess the company's current human resources requirements – identifying, prioritizing, and establishing action plans for programs and systems that add value to the company. You will have a fantastic opportunity to join the leadership team at a critical moment and help us define the strategies to retain, hire, motivate, and train the people who are central to our success.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Human Resources
- Partner with the leadership team to develop a comprehensive strategic roadmap to building the People function to support the company's growth.
- Collaborate closely with leadership and employees, understanding the business/people needs and developing and executing HR strategies and programming to support them.
- Provide advice and counsel around employee relations issues, compensation planning, as well as performance management including feedback, coaching and goal setting.
- Manage employee relations cases from initial advice through to completion.
- Oversee compensation and benefits administration, ensuring that compensation and benefits are benchmarked to market standards.
- Lead organizational change management initiatives and support leaders with building and executing communication plans associated with the change.
- Employ data driven techniques, awareness of market trends, and technical solutions to determine critical needs, identify unique opportunities for people and culture development, and automate HR systems.
- Ensure administrative record keeping and employment practices are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop and lead diversity and inclusion program.
Learning and Development
- Develop and execute an exceptional learning and development program.
- Lead our talent development programs including management of our talent review processes, employee retention programs, staff coaching and individual development planning, and related programs.
- Create ongoing employee development opportunities for employees and managers through training, programming, performance management, coaching, career path definition, competencies, etc.
- Leadership coaching and management training.
Talent Acquisition
- Collaborate with company leaders, internal / external recruiters and Finance team to develop and iterate hiring and org plans based on the evolving business needs.
- Partner with the recruiting lead and the marketing team on Employer Branding efforts.
- Directly manage the internal recruiting team.
Office & Culture
- Maintain positive office culture by developing a strong, consistent events schedule and other events aimed at driving team engagement and collaboration.
- Ensure Mack Weldon’s core values are incorporated into all hiring, retention and people decision-making.
- Lead Mack Weldon’s D&I and culture initiatives.
- Manage, mentor and develop office manager.
WHAT WILL SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS
- You’re an experienced people leader with a minimum of 10 years of experience working at both strategic and executional levels, ideally in a startup environment.
- You have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in building relationships with leadership teams and managers.
- You’ve lived recruiting and can help managers/recruiters land top talent.
- You have an entrepreneurial spirit and previous exposure to high-growth, fast paced and collaborative environments.
- You’re motivated to understand the business and the role talent plays in driving it.
- You are a self-starter who thrives at developing new programs to attract/retain top talent.
- You have experience working closely with all levels and comfortable providing counsel and strategic recommendations.
- You have a thorough understanding of relevant employment regulations, laws, and requirements.

- Salary range of $180,000 - $230,000 *This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this NYC - based position. The base salary will depend on numerous factors such as: experience and qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other MW employees.
