This senior leadership role is responsible for shaping, overseeing, and optimizing the R&D pipeline and project management functions across the organization. You will drive strategic portfolio planning, ensure effective governance, and lead complex transformation initiatives that enhance efficiency, speed, and decision-making quality. The position combines cross-functional leadership, data-driven insight, and operational execution to maximize R&D impact. You will influence enterprise-wide decisions, manage interdependencies across programs, and ensure successful delivery of high-priority projects. This role requires a forward-thinking, problem-solving mindset, with a strong emphasis on process improvement, digital adoption, and organizational transformation. Accountabilities

  • Oversee the integrated R&D pipeline strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities, therapeutic area strategies, and risk-based decision making.
  • Strengthen pipeline governance and stage-gate processes, providing clear, data-driven insights for executive decisions on investment, resourcing, and trade-offs.
  • Lead planning, implementation, and execution of enterprise-wide R&D transformation programs to improve efficiency, workflow digitization, and operational excellence.
  • Identify structural, process, and operational gaps, proposing high-impact initiatives with measurable KPIs and ROI.
  • Define and enforce standardized R&D project management practices, including planning, change control, risk management, and dependency tracking.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and alignment, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • Communicate complex strategies, progress, and outcomes to senior leadership and stakeholders effectively.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in scientific, business, or related discipline required; advanced degree (MBA, MS, PhD) strongly preferred.
    • Significant experience in global pharmaceutical or biotech R&D, including portfolio leadership, transformation, and governance.
    • Deep knowledge of drug development, global operating models, and R&D processes.
    • Proven track record of shaping and executing functional or enterprise-wide strategies to drive transformation and growth.
    • Strong leadership skills with ability to influence, inspire, and mobilize cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentations to large groups and interpretation of complex data.
    • Lean/Six Sigma certification or equivalent process improvement expertise preferred.
    • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of managing multiple high-impact initiatives simultaneously.
