Vice President, Regional Marketing

Position Summary:

The Vice President, Regional Marketing, leads the comprehensive, multi-functional regional marketing teams supporting the Illumina Commercial Regions. The 175 employees in these regional marketing teams are integral to the development and deployment of Illumina company and marketing strategies to unlock the potential of genomics in our markets. They are responsible for driving portfolio growth across our various product lines and market segments and partner with our Commercial organizations to help further our mission to transform human healthcare and unlock the potential of the genome across the globe.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a key member of the Marketing Leadership Team. Drives short to mid-range strategy on regional priorities and market-driven investment; influences mid to long-range strategy on global positioning
  • Works closely with top Commercial leaders to ensure there is higher level focus and investment in areas that drive key commercial strategy, goals and revenue.
  • Builds a high performing team. Invests time and effort on developing regional teams sustainably to support future growth of individuals and the company
  • Engages regional teams to drive clear strategic choices including resource allocation across regions.
  • Builds a world-class regional marketing team that delivers on a global Illumina brand that is consistent and deeply customer centered.
  • Oversees regionalized strategies and executes multi-channel marketing plans to support corporate and commercial business objectives
  • Acts as primary interface with sales and customers providing a bidirectional conduit to channel market information, VOC and VOS to internal and external stakeholders
  • Encourages partnership with commercial teams and customer support as a dominant culture of regional marketing; instills a sense of accountability for revenue impact
  • Supports collaboration with global marketing counterparts to encourage active partnerships with their teams Coordinates and prioritizes region specific growth opportunities; raises leading indicators of local market trends for global team
  • Partners with global product management leader on key NPI's - insures regional preparedness / sharing info from the regions with product teams
  • Partners closely with global brand team to develop Illumina's global brand
  • Monitors, review and report out regional businesses across market segments, funnel health, and key customer types to ensure strategic plans are leveraged and adjusted accordingly

Requirements:

  • Deeply understands clinical markets, the segments in which Illumina operates, and the ability to identify opportunities for new segments and markets
  • Ability to synthesize evolving clinical trends and relevant scientific breakthroughs to contribute to strategy formation
  • Ability to effectively influence top management and/or the scientific and clinical community
  • Comprehensive understanding of core strategic marketing and business principles
  • Ability to interpret and communicate financial data and concepts
  • Possesses an enterprise mindset - able to balance local / regional needs while also driving global efficiencies.
  • Can work as a member of global multi-functional team and possesses strong communication, organization skills and planning ability (demonstrated ability to lead in a matrix, global environment)
  • Understands how to leverage omnichannel and digital marketing and how to manage the marketing funnel and attribution modeling
  • Compelling communicator able to influence and grow customer and channel partner confidence
  • Decisive with strong influencing and negotiation skills.

Preferred Experience/Education:
  • Bachelors or Masters in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry or equivalent is required; MBA or other relevant advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 20 years in marketing and/or sales/commercial roles in the life sciences, health care or medical technology field
  • Experience in sales or sales leadership strongly preferred
