Our VP, Scientific Strategy works closely with the rest of the strategy team as well as our interwoven client teams. You will lead development of strategically-aligned scientific communications plans to meet client goals as well as guide and support implementation of such plans. The ideal candidate will be a flexible problem-solver who can juggle multiple moving pieces at once and contribute analytical research skills learned in the lab/research setting to clients and new business opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead marketing and medical strategy for our clients’ brands and serve as a content consultant for client services, other strategy functions, and creative teams within Spectrum
- Proactively identify scientific/medical challenges and threats for clients and advise clients on how to evolve medical and brand plans accordingly
- Lead the development of strategically focused projects with minimal senior support and build strategic plans based on insights and strategic workshops
- Work with senior leadership to identify new and innovative opportunities for business growth through networking across our Knowledge Centers and our global network as well as quickly identify organic growth opportunities; Lead scientific strategy approach for integrated new business proposals and confidently cross-sells support from other Spectrum disciplines
- Mentor junior staff and play an active role in their professional development; identify and champion both account-specific and agency-wide visibility opportunities for self and team members
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of client industry landscape, scientific approach, and business objectives; identify relevant strategic opportunities
- Interpret and communicate clinical and research advances for staff, clients, and general public
- Contribute to new business opportunities, including scientific assessment and insights development supporting pitch presentations, organic growth contributions, etc.
- Draft and review wide array of complex, strategic scientific communications materials, and other deliverables (e.g., corporate/product narratives, messages and Q&As, scientific content, etc.)
- Participate and actively contribute to all-agency and client meetings, as appropriate and as the face of Spectrum
- Engage in staffing and projections; liaise with client and interwoven team on project scopes and budgets

Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Advanced Degree (PhD, PharmD)
- At least 5+ years of prior experience including in the healthcare agency setting
- Deep knowledge of the scientific and medical literature ecosystem; ability to research, assess, and formulate actionable scientific insights from complex inputs
- Service orientation with experience building strong internal and external relationships across client functions (e.g. Medical Affairs, Medical Communications, Commercial, Public Affairs).
- Self-educate on innovation in the industry and begin to conceptualize trends, and programs for client teams and Management/ Leadership teams
- Familiarity with industry regulatory environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects and/or accounts simultaneously
- Resourceful and effective problem solver
- Highly collaborative, professional demeanor
- Able to excel in a team environment as well as drive work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
