About this Role

Fandom is one of the top 50 most visited sites in the world and we are looking for an experienced and strategic Tech Ops leader to lead the Tech Ops and Corporate IT functions at Fandom. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the VP of Tech Ops will lead  globally distributed Tech Ops and IT teams. You will manage and evolve our hybrid infrastructure encompassing on-prem and multi-cloud environments. You will demand strategic foresight in managing substantial budgets, vendor relationships, and the pursuit of elevating the employee experience through technology. Your expertise will ensure our global operations are not only efficient and secure but also positioned for sustainable growth.

This role is based in the San Francisco Bay area, or can be US Remote East Coast.

You Will...
  • Ensure the stability, scalability, and security of Fandom’s  technology platforms and environments.

  • Architect and govern a hybrid infrastructure strategy that integrates on-premises systems with multi-cloud environments.

  • Lead initiatives to shape infrastructure, supporting both peak performance and sustainable growth.

  • Lead a diverse, geographically dispersed team to succeed in Tech Ops and IT.

  • Promote a culture that excels at innovation, agility, and cross-cultural collaboration.

  • Drive operational best practices within Tech Ops and IT, emphasizing efficiency, quality service delivery, and continuous improvement.

  • Use data-driven insights to inform infrastructure advancements and IT enhancements.

  • Manage a large Tech Ops and IT budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and Return on investment across global operations.

  • Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors, maintaining partnerships and procurement strategies.

  • Develop and maintain an incident response plan and lead the response to any production issues, security breaches or incidents.

  • Develop, maintain, and execute a comprehensive information security strategy that aligns with our goals and encompasses the hybrid, on-premises, and multi-cloud infrastructure.

  • Regularly assess and evolve the security posture to mitigate emerging threats and vulnerabilities in a dynamic technological landscape.

  • Enhance employee experience through the strategic deployment of corporate IT solutions that facilitate collaboration, productivity, and workplace flexibility.

  • Define and roll out IT policies that support a positive, secure, and efficient work environment for all employees, regardless of location.

  • Stay ahead of IT trends to ensure Fandom provides a modern, user-centric technology environment for its workforce.

  • Ensure global compliance with IT, data privacy and cybersecurity regulations, adapting to the evolving landscape of international standards, such as GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant frameworks.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on infrastructure initiatives and priorities.

  • Understand the growing needs of the business and ensure that our technology platforms meet those requirements.

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends to inform the company's technology roadmap.

You Have...
  • 10+ years of experience with large-scale Tech Operations, in a high web traffic environment.

  • At least 5 years in Tech Operations leadership roles.

  • Extensive experience with globally distributed on-premises infrastructure and operations.

  • Experience with, and deep understanding of, cloud infrastructure, hybrid cloud architecture, and related technologies such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Docker, and Kubernetes.

  • Leadership experience with globally distributed Tech Ops teams, demonstrating experience with hiring, mentoring and scaling top talent across diverse geographical locations.

  • Experience navigating the financial aspects of technology operations, including budgeting and vendor management.

  • Experience establishing best in class monitoring, alerting and incident response processes.

  • Demonstrated experience with security in hybrid and multi-cloud environments, including developing and implementing security policies, controls, and procedures.

  • Strategic thinker who executes methodically.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Expert communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Software engineering background leading development teams would be a big plus.

  • Experience improving employee experience through the strategic application of corporate IT solutions.
