As Vice President of Site Reliability Engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable, available, and scalability of the products and services that power the customer journeys and/or platforms at American Express. The reliability of our products and services is key to making sure we deliver the functionality and quality of experience that American Express customers expect.
This role requires deep technical expertise in system design and resiliency, cloud infrastructure, and SRE core practices. Working with development teams, you will help to design and deploy systems and processes that provide high availability and quality of service. Partnerships across the organization to coordinate scale and responsiveness will be a core component for success.
On any given day, you might:
- Create the vision and standards for how we build, deploy, monitor, and maintain our critical systems and infrastructure
- Define a comprehensive SRE strategy that aligns with the company's overall goals and objectives
- Develop and implement best practices for site reliability, including incident management, change management, root cause analysis, and monitoring/analyzing system performance
- Collaborate with product and program partners to establish non-functional requirements for new products and services
- Build and lead a high-performing team of Site Reliability Engineers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure the team's success and development
- Participate in a detailed design reviews and set standards for the organization
- Develop and maintain Service-Level Objectives and Service-Level Indicators
- Partner with stakeholders across the company to establish a culture of continuous improvement
- Bachelor's degree or relevant professional experience in computer science or related science, technology, engineering or mathematics fields
- Extensive experience leading software engineering teams
- Expertise in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and SRE practices
- Demonstrated experience with modern cloud infrastructure and related techniques
- Proven experience hiring, retaining and leading high caliber engineering talent
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to author and deliver effective presentations to senior technology and business leaders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with focus on data-driven decision making
- Relentless drive to innovate in process and software to better meet the needs of our customers
- Ability to build and maximize positive relationships with team, business and technology partners
- Experience working in a distributed team model and collaborating with remote team members
- Appetite for trying new things and motivating change in a large and sometimes slow-moving organization
- Mastery of modern technology architecture, infrastructure, and software practices
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions
Salary Range: $210,000.00 to $300,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
